Swimming success

I have no-one to tell irl, so I hope it’s okay to post on here!

I started swimming a month ago (first time since I was a child) and I’ve only managed the front crawl for half a length of the pool (full length is 15m) before choking on/swallowing water.

But in my swim session today, I managed five full lengths without choking on/swallowing water at all!

I’m very pleased with myself and I’m so glad that I’m seeing improvements so early on 😊

Would anyone else like to share a sport success too?

Well done! That is such amazing progress. I had to relearn to swim after becoming disabled, and at first I could splash 2 strokes before it all went wrong but with help from an amazing coach it all improved so fast

Spicykitten · 29/01/2025 20:25

Was meant to type 25m, not 15m, sorry!

Brilliant. It's so rewarding getting better at swimming, I've been working on it for a year and love the progress. Sounds like you'll be going from strength to strength, enjoy it.

That's brilliant. You must feel amazing.
I relearnt to swim in my early 30s, starting in a class doing widths and moving up to the triathlon training class. Turns out there's a sprt I'm good at!

Amazing! I’m in my late 20s.

I can’t afford lessons in addition to my monthly membership, but I learn through coaches on TikTok e.g. ISwimSchool and Swimsy. Then I practice in the pool on my own.

I still can’t do the breaststroke, but I’m happy to keep working on my front crawl and backstroke for now.

@Spicykitten that's fantastic. Go you 🐬

That's amazing! I'm a bit of a plodder in the pool, not helped by the fact that the water is so cold I get cramp and shiver.

Spicykitten · 30/01/2025 12:50

Thank you 😊

I know the feeling @Game0fCrones. The pool I use is quite cold!

Fabulous Spicykitten!
I took up swimming at 55, a year ago, after not swimming lengths since school. I'm loving it - my breaststroke is fast now, but I'm rubbish at front crawl, so I'm jealous !

Please teach me your ways! My breaststroke is incredibly slow and I don’t know how to speed up. Well done!

How many lengths are people swimming in half an hour?
