Making being more active a focus this year
i tried the gym last year but only used a few machines and didn’t like the public lol
i love going for walks when it’s nice out, and I’ve found some fun YouTube dance fit workoits
howevrr I’m also looking at getting a hoop. Don’t get me wrong I have NO clue how to hula hoop but it looks like fun cardio and I want to shrink my waist/stomach
has anyone tried this? I’m not sure whether a regular bigger hoop would be best, or those ones tighter to your body with the ball ?

Anyone tried hula hooping?

Never been able to do it, just cant do it. Bought them before, chucked them away each time because Im convinced I can learn.

I cant.

I do it! It have one similar to the pink and grey one in the picture . Paid £7.99 for it in Home Bargains. I tried it 2 or 3 times then it sat behind the sofa for over a year before I tried again. Nowadays I can manage up to 30 minutes a time, 2 or 3 times a week.

You may feel a bit sore and bruised at the start but as you firm up you'll get used to it.

Anyone remember Grace Jones hoola hooping through a song at some event a few years back

Legend.

Hi, I hula hoop using a weighted hoop similar to the pink and grey one in the picture. I hula hoop for 30-40 mins every night

Oh also never been able to but convinced it can’t be THAT hard even though I have such poor coordination 😂😂 the ones with the ball people make it look so easy on Tiktok as I guess there’s less effort to keep it up but I’ve read about it bruising

Mine weighs 1.8kg I brought it from argos when it was on offer, they currently have a 1.25kg on offer

Brusing is not a worry of mine, the thing just falls to the floor. Although that results in bruised feet

Yep same here. Spent days and weeks one summer with my DD trying to teach me but I couldn't get the wiggle right to get it moving more than 3 twirls. I tried youtube videos but no joy.

But I can do it on my arm and my leg. Extremely frustrating as I would love to do this as exercise.

GustyGertie · 12/01/2025 14:52

Any tips?

purpleme12 · 12/01/2025 14:53

I like hula hooping

soupfiend · 12/01/2025 14:56

Im blaming OP for making me think about getting another one

MrsSethGecko · 12/01/2025 14:59

I bought one a few years ago after seeing someone doing it on Call The Midwife.

I can't do it.

Enko · 12/01/2025 15:00

I used to go to a class many years ago it was so much fun. I missed it when we moved.

FerretChops · 12/01/2025 15:09

It's easy to learn! Honestly. I'd just use a proper weighted one - none of those weird clacking ones where you remove links.

Watch a video and practice. Top tip is to stand with one leg slightly in front of the other and you almost rock back and forth. Don't try and move your hips in a circle as such

Flamingoknees · 12/01/2025 18:06

I can do it, but don't. What benefits have those of you seen, who do it regularly?

Hazeltwig · 12/01/2025 18:19

I could do it when I was a child. Haven't tried it since 😁

CheerfulBunny · 12/01/2025 18:27

God, I wish I could do this. Finally bought a weighted hoop last year and found our then house was much too small to be able to do it without destroying furniture and knick-knacks with each go. We've moved now and have plenty of space so I should get it out. It's bloody hard though.
(I have form for this kind of fitness gadget-y stuff. Ive had at least a couple of those big inflatable balls, rollers, stretchy bands...😄I find them irresistible)
