Reformer pilates once a week

Is there any point? I keep on hearing that you need at least 3 sessions but I can't afford that. Will I get any benefit from once a week and can I supplement it with weights at home/youtube workouts? (And if so - any suggestions?) I'm in my fifties and want to be stronger overall.

I used to go once a week as part of physio rehabilitation for an injury. It was perfect. It was a 1:1 session rather than a class though, so very targeted.

I go once a week. A good teacher will suggest mat exercises to do inbetween.
I love my reformer sessions. Wouldn’t want to give them up.
Ideally you would do a 1:1 or 1:2, also called a duet or maximum 3 students and 1 teacher.
Avoid the huge classes with music and 1 teacher.
Your session should be personalized to you and with a hands on instructor who is adjusting you. Teachers trained in balanced body and Basi pilates are usually good.

I used to only go once a week as it was all I could afford but I topped up with cheaper mat classes another 2 times.

You can get quite a lot of online mat content which should be good.
