Returning to running after pelvic stress fracture

4 weeks ago I sustained a pubic rami fracture during an intervals session. Fracture clinic and physio think it is a stress fracture as I had run quite heavily the weekend before and my undercarriage felt quite tight before I started the session. However as it came on suddenly and is atypical they are sending me for a bone density scan to rule out a fragility fracture. I have been on crutches for 3 weeks after initially being misdiagnosed by the MAU and I'm having NHS and private physio. I've got another 3 weeks on both crutches and then 2 weeks on one crutch. No impact exercise until at least the beginning of February.

At the moment the pain is still significant, my mobility is very limited and I cannot imagine being able to run again (or anything else much). I would normally run 3 x per week, gym (cardio) 3 x per week. Exercise keeps me sane and I'm beginning to feel very pessimistic even though I know that realistically it's still early days.

Is there anyone who had the same thing who can reassure me that it gets better? And what was your time frame for recovery? I saw an account from a triathlete online who said it took him 12 months to be back to full strength 😭 Also did you start with other exercise early on and if so what was it? I'm banned from any exercise at all for at least another week but was wondering about swimming or upper body stuff. Thank you!
