Due to finances/other issues I have to work out at home.

I have access to hard weights and barbells and kettle bells (from light to heavy,.thanks DS)

I want to firm up my arms, things, stomach and I'd really like to try and get a bum.

Am utterly clueless.

Any ideas where to start?

I can recommend chat gpt. It's free. You can tell it your fitness levels, what equipment you have, when you might like to work out, what stuff you like/dislike, whether you'd prefer to do resistance stuff at home or head for a run etc and it can write you a basic program. You can then ask it to tweak certain parts that you dislike etc. If you've no money for a PT then it's a good option. Not as good as an actual person, but good enough.

Look up Heather Robertson on you tube - does lots of different free workouts with and without equipment . You can follow a program for a number of weeks .

Thanks, is that an app?

It might be an app. I just use the website. Stick it in a search engine and it'll come up.

Do you have an iPhone? Try Apple fitness. Their strength workouts are simple and fun.

You can do short ones, just ten minutes a day. Really enjoyable and then build from there if you want!

Longhotsummers · 24/11/2024 22:26

Look at Annie Deasman fitness on YouTube. She has beginner strength training videos which are great. She also is on Instagram and has a website. I work out at home with her videos and have increased the weights as I get more proficient and stronger.

buddy79 · 24/11/2024 22:29

If you’re on instagram there are some great free workouts you can find, using equipment at home exactly as you are doing.
carolinescircuits is brilliant, she has fee-paying courses but also LOADS of free short work out guides if you have a browse through her videos.
sally gunnell the same.
look up “calisthenics beginners workout” or similar on YouTube and you will find loads of free workouts using minimal or no equipment.

If there’s some financial wiggle room take a look at the Peloton App - it has some great weight training classes, along with yoga, Pilates, cardio etc, and it’s £12.99/month - I think a lot of people just think it’s for the bike/treadmill but there’s loads of exercises that don’t need those. The first 30 days are free so you could give it a go and see if you get on with it.

Second this, there's a link for 60 days free

fivebyfivebuffy · 24/11/2024 22:53

The peloton app also has programmes so things like discover strength, road to 5k etc or you can just pick classes

HoundsOfSmell · 24/11/2024 22:56

Caroline givern on YouTube.

also yoga for flexibility and some skipping for cardio

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 24/11/2024 23:00

Look up Kate rowe-ham on Instagram. She has an app. I'm not sure of your age but her app offers daily live classes.

buybuysellsell · 24/11/2024 23:03

I'd have a look for one of the Davina McCall fitness DVDs in a charity shop. They are old now but they're brilliant for toning up at home with no equipment. You don't even need a sports bra or trainers on for some sections.

mitogoshigg · 24/11/2024 23:03

There's lot of you tube work outs, start without weight and work up then go running for cardio. My dd (as personal trainer qualification) worked out my routine and takes 15 minutes, (alas I've got lax in actually doing it!)

notmassif · 24/11/2024 23:07

Growingananas
Caroline Girvan
Heather Robertson

All have loads of YouTube videos and plans.

sharpclawedkitten · 25/11/2024 21:30

There are loads of apps that do free trials, and some are doing Black Friday deals.

You could look at Evolve You, Form, Fluidform among others.
