Fluey after strenuous exercise

Just that really.

I'm getting back into exercise after lots of time off and a massive weight gain (about 5st). I'm doing ok, have completed C25K and currently 30lb down.

But.. I've noticed whenever I do heavy exercise (mainly on the treadmill) I feel awful the next day.

I ran my first full 5K last Monday then Tuesday morning I woke up with a sore throat and banging head which by Wednesday evening had tailed off. Just kept it light after that but yesterday I really pushed myself and did 6K (took forever so wasn't fast) and this morning I woke up feeling awful again.

Does anyone get this? Is it just a coincidence? I've bought some echinacea today but not sure that will help.

Maybe I'm doing too much too soon.

Are you drinking enough during and after? And if you’re sweating you need electrolytes in there too. Plus are you eating something fairly soon afterwards?
I’d say this is unusual tbh. It could be a bit much too soon and/or you already had a cold or something coming on.
Edit: Forgot to add, if you’re doing 45 mins and up of exercise you will need to take some kind of nutrition while you’re running. Like a sports gel, or even something like jelly babies.
