Anyone want to be gym buddies?

I need some help with accountability! I have a history of abandoning fitness regimes.

I’m 40, BMI 31, 3 young DC who make exercise feel impossible. Have managed to heal my relationship with food and ditch diet culture through intuitive eating and Zoe nutrition. Now need to get moving.

I’ve joined a budget gym and am following the workouts on their app, one strength and one cardio per week and aiming to add a yoga video on a lunch break too.

I much prefer classes because the embarrassment of walking out is the only thing keeping me in, but I can’t fit them into my schedule.

I've just joined a gym. Not been a member of a gym since pre covid. Went back to work ft last year and my exercise (the odd run and lots of walks) fell off a cliff. I'll join you for the painful slog of trying to get fitter again. I hate classes, I lack coordination.

I am aiming to try and do 3 x a week. Had my induction yesterday.

@WonderingWanda yessss let’s do it! 💪

I also lack coordination and see getting fitter as a painful slog. But I’ve also realise that life in general is a painful slog because I’m not moving enough.

I did my first session of weights today which I don’t mind because you get to sit down a lot! Wednesday lunchtime I will try a yoga video and Thursday morning will be my dreaded cardio gym session. I might try and watch something addictive on Netflix on a treadmill. Now I’m accountable to you so I must follow through.

Excited (ish) to get the dopamine flowing and feel more energized.

Watching something while running on a treadmill really helps!
Download C25K! Bank up your good films for the treadmill. In 10 weeks you will be a new person.

Good luck OP!

I've just got back from the gym. I don't mind the cardio so much but find the weights the most anxiety inducing bit, which weight, am I doing it right etc! I used to do quite a bit of running so even though I'm a bit slower now I actually don't mind the treadmill, Ialso like the cross trainer. Today working on arms and upper body todat....definitely my weak point....well that's a lie really I suspect my core is my weakest point but I hate planks with a passion....urgh I'm going to have yo start doing them again aren't I.

Ahhh we are a complimentary pair… I don’t mind weights and you don’t mind cardio.

Does your gym have an app with weight training workouts? Mine has so I’m just following those for structure and each exercise has a mini video to copy for technique and a satisfying button to tick off each one as you do it.

If you could bear to join a pump type class that’s a good way to learn technique on free weights, past classes from long ago is where my confidence with weights comes from.

I aim to find the weight which makes 3 x 10 reps difficult but doable with proper form (trying my best to copy the form in the pictures on the machines and on the gym app)

I hate the cross trainer so much but you’ve inspired me to try it. Yes I guess it’s plank time 🫠 I might try to do one at the end of every gym session and see if I can increase the time. My current length of plank is 30 seconds before collapsing on the floor.

That makes two of us abandoning fitness regimes! I struggle to keep in the swing of my fitness bursts, when I get them. I have a DD who makes it feel so tough to get the chance to workout so huge well done to you for taking this big first step to get into bettering yourself! 🙌

I get such bad anxiety in the gym which drives me away, I feel like I am doing everything wrong and like everyone is watching me. I signed up to some boxing classes - the end result is me taking part in an event for charity. I am absolutely petrified but I think I need to go in at the deep end so I don't wiggle my way out of it again!

Glad to see you are sticking with the gym and pushing yourself.. we have got this 💪🥳
