Hi, just this! I've just started doing jogging on treadmill at the gym. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations? I've heard over the head ones get sweaty so to stick to ear buds. Is this true? X

I like bone conduction ones, they also allow you to hear what's going on around you still, so good for walks/, runs outside.

MiddleAgedDread · 30/08/2024 14:06

Shokz bone conductors then they're safer if you run outside too

Another vote for Shokz. They do ones that you can wear swimming too.

I got Go Lab ones from amazon, they are wireless but loop over your ears so they don't fall off/out. Only about £30

Yes, JLab! Sorry 😂

notaurewhatusername · 30/08/2024 17:36

Ones that clip over ear are best in my opinion - I have Jlab Epic Air noise cancelling I'd recommend - I think they're £50-£100

See if you can find a pair of bone conductor ones you can try before you buy them. I don't know if you have friends who run who might have them. I can't get on with them at all and wasted my money buying a pair. I couldn't hear anything and the sound quality was crap even though I bought a good brand!

Piffpaffpoff · 30/08/2024 17:37

JLab Go in fact, hence my confusion (I just looked them up🤣🤣)

Another vote for the J Lab ones ... one of the best non-romantic yet highly practical gifts DH has ever got me. Mine are probably 5 years old now, still comfy and I reckon I get a good 7-8 hours from a charge

Used them on a lovely sunny run this am Grin

Bone conductors (shokz)

I can't cram buds into my ears, they're never small enough.

I agree. Spent ages looking at reviews and then found I could hardly hear them over traffic. Defeated point really!

op now that Bluetooth is standard any in ear buds would work. I use air Pods.
for a while I did use big overhead earphones and yeah it was sweaty but it didn’t really put me off! So if you already have those I’d try them first, don’t let finding right kit turn into weeks of procrastination when you should be running!

I use bone conducting ones when I’m outside, so I can be aware of my surroundings, but I don’t think they’d be at all suitable for treadmill use as the treadmill itself is quite noisy plus the gym may have other music playing.

PCController2 · 12/09/2024 20:54

I'm a huge fan of Shokz. I think they've just brought out a new model with better sound quality. I'm perfectly happy with the originals though.

LaPalmaLlama · 12/09/2024 21:09

Bone conductors are annoying in the gym as you get too much background noise- you need to wear ear plugs in your actual ears. Agree they are good for outside although I just use earbuds on transparency.

I run wearing AirPod Pros with no issues (surprisingly).

VictoryOrDeath · 13/09/2024 20:37

And actually, you'll probably need noise cancelling in the gym anyway.

Me too. You need headphones with noise cancelling for in the gym or you can't hear your music. AirPods Pro are great sound quality, noise cancelling and don't fall out (ime).
