Swimming advice for teens

Looking for some advice: my DD (13) is not keen on most exercise. Swimming is one of the few activities she enjoys and is good at. For a time she was a member of a youth swimming club but was put off by the aggressively competitive element and it also required a greater time commitment than we could give (four sessions per week, often during my work hours or her school hours).

I am keen to nudge her back into it but she’s too old and too advanced for most swimming lessons and I don’t think a competitive club would work. Aside from just going to the pool for fun are there other swimming clubs which are a bit more relaxed?

We’re in South London. Willing to travel a bit but not too far. Any thoughts welcome.

under water hockey clubs

And a video to show how slow how awesome it is:

I started middle aged unfit never played a team sport and the community is so welcoming. It is about the only actually massively outing hobby though

Not all clubs solely offer competitive squads . Being London you probably have a huge range near you so I’d explore further.

My ds swimming club has swim sessions ranging from an hour a week to 3 sessions a week for those who want a club training atmosphere alongside offering the more competitive and performance environment for those who are that level and want it.

Our swimming club had fitness sections for youths... also what about lifeguard preparation?

Did you take a look at the places leisure website? Their higher levels have young teens and its honestly more of a swim fit style lesson. Excellent value for money and a huge pool to swim in. Or Battersea jacs swim at tooting leisure centre and Ernest begin, I think.
If you want to spend more money, try south west swimming at either Emmanuel or Burntwood girls school.
None of these are competitive but I guarantee she'll get a great workout.
Battersea Jacs are useless with emails. They're at the Tooting leisure centre Monday Wednesday and Friday. Just go along and ask if you can speak to them.

Good luck 👍
