Typical milestone crisis and in need of a shape up. Could do with losing half a stone but mainly looking for muscle, tone and fitness improvements.

would 30 mins 3 x a week at home weights plus 1 hour in-person yoga class be enough to see an improvement? This would be in addition to 8-10k steps a day I already do and will cut calories to shift the weight so just thinking body shape & muscle/tone. Ive found an online session I really like the look of so figured upper, lower and full body each week plus maybe add some core work.

any thoughts?

Piece of string question! Yoga is good for general health but doesn't add much for improving aesthetics (unless you do it intensely and several times a week) . Things that will count are

Consistency
Intensity
Progressive overload

If you eat below your calorie needs you will lose weight. If you do hand weights 3 times a week it's best if you do full body 3 days to be honest. However you also need to move up in terms of how heavy you lift and that's difficult to achieve at home. Also if it's too light it will not build muscles. So the kind of workout you do also matter.

Ok thanks that's helpful. I'm ok with the food side as can quite easily drop a few calories without too much hardship. I see what you're saying about weight training progression so might look for a strength based class once a week as well as yoga is more stretch and condition than strength. DS has a good range of hand weights to progress so will get started and then reassess after a month if I need a gym.
Cheers Grin
