Slow recovery after training

I’m a regular runner although my fitness is poor right now. I did some training in the gym on Tuesday which included some lunges (🤬) and was stiff the next day (but been stiffer). The following day still stiff but we’ve all been there

my bloody legs hurt until Saturday when I hit them with a massage gun in anticipation of this mornings long run

recovery taking over 5 days isn’t normal is it? wtf is going on? Am I deficient in something?

it’s worth noting that I’m 56 and on a diet but even so …

Hard to say from a one-off. Although the one and only time I tried Bulgarian split lunges took me out for about that time!

Did you do any exercise in the days after this heavy session? If you didn’t, the DOMS will be worse.

You probably just notice it more if you haven’t exercised properly for a while. When you were in full fitness as a runner, I’d imagine a certain amount of discomfort was pretty normal and you stopped noticing.

The agony of getting back into being fit is partly what keeps me going. If I stop, starting again is just too painful!

You say you are on a diet. Are you getting enough nutrition to fuel your workout?
