I have been trying to improve my strength for almost a year, mainly through Caroline Girvan programmes. When I started a year ago I couldn't do a single push up but now can manage around 8.

I looked online and it says the average woman my age should be able to do 11-14 in a row so I still seem to be lagging https://www.livestrong.com/article/421691-the-average-push-ups-for-men-women/

Is this other's experience? I am wondering if I need to train push ups specifically so am thinking of doing 100 a day (not all in one go!) to see if I can increase my number. Anyone want to join me?

Don't feel bad, that article is confusingly written. THey show a full push up, and then talk about average in their table.

If you click on the link for the protocol they refer to and where those averages come from, this states: Standard for women – bent-knee position. Way easier.

Thought I would update, quite pleased as almost a year on I managed my first set of 20 (regular, not knee) pushups today. I didn't train them specifically in the end but just carried on with Caroline Girvan iron workouts. I am also up to a grand total of 3 pullups!
