Anyone tried a fitness mirror?

There's an article about one of them in the papers this morning. They monitor reps and form.

I want to start strength training, but I'm too self conscious at the gym or with a personal trainer and my form is rubbish. Wondering if this might be a solution?(I'm looking at the Magic AI one).

Why not save that huge amount of money and pay for a few sessions with a PT to properly train you instead?

This. Nothing motivates like another person. No AI has the sense of humour of my lovely running group leader.

And being self conscious, you just need to find the right person/group. My running group, there isn't one of us that isn't fat, injured, old or unfit. Or a combination. DH has a trainer that's sarcastic and older (because that suits him). Try a couple of sessions. Honestly, it really helps.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 14/04/2024 15:28

I looked for a female PT in my age range (I’m 50) and found one. We have a laugh during sessions and I’m far more comfortable than I would be training with a bloke.

If I hadn’t found her I’d have looked for a younger woman but this is far better. Would that be an option for you?

TakingTheHorseToFrance · 14/04/2024 15:41

I have a female PT. She's older than me and is brilliant, no nonsense and is very encouraging. It takes away any feeling of awkwardness in the gym that I used to have

ShuggyBug · 14/04/2024 15:41

Hi, I get what you're both saying and I have worked with a PT before a few times over the years, but I just found it all a bit uncomfortable and didn't stick with it, I also thought they pushed too hard. I hadn't thought about looking for an older woman though, glad its working out for you.

I love cardio, but hate weights/squats/ lunges etc. I like the idea of (trying !) to do myself at home, at my own pace, I would cancel my gym membership to justify the monthly cost, but it's still a lot. There are reviews online but nothing on Mumsnet, so just wondered if anyone has tried it or similar.

Hi OP, I'm exactly in the same situation and want to start strength training. Cost of a PT are high and I can't justify the cost with the current COL. I ordered the Magic Mirror yesterday along with the weights and bench. It has excellent reviews and up to 5 people can have profiles on the mirror. That is really cost effective for my family. I did a good bit of research and whilst I know it can't beat a real life PT it comes pretty close I think to making sure correct form etc. I'd say go for it!

ShuggyBug · 20/04/2024 13:52

Thanks Ang69, I’ve ordered too, fingers crossed we like it and it does the trick.

Can't wait for it to arrive, they say 30 working days but I know there have been delays.

I'm doing some gentle body weight exercises to try and prepare myself for using weights. Really hope this helps. I think it will be great, just deciding where to put it! Did you get the bench snd weights too?

ShuggyBug · 20/04/2024 15:49

Yes, I thought I would regret it if I didn’t and am doing the monthly payments. I think I’m going to put it in the lounge as I have a bit of floor space there. I’m really looking forward to it and will use for yoga as well once it’s available. I’ll report back when it arrives!

A colleague has one in her home gym/basement conversion. She swears by it. Hers has all kinds of classes included too. I've seen videos of it in action and it does look quite cool. It suits her as she works odd shifts and getting to a gym for PT sessions just won't happen.

I really hope you have a better experience of the mirror than I have. I’m leaving this here as the Company behind the mirror are very dishonest and I’ve never come across anything like it. I’d be keen to hear if you actually receive the mirror.

i ordered the mirror on Feb 3rd and was told 30 days. I then received nothing and every time I asked I was told another couple of weeks. Until at the end of April I told them if it wasn’t delivered by May 8th I wanted a refund. It didn’t arrive. I was offered £50 off for the inconvenience but persisted and requested a refund. I still don’t have my refund. I left a review on trust pilot along with a bunch of other people (look at all the 1* reviews). Last week they said they would only process my refund if I removed my genuine review. In addition there are a bunch of other reviews on there which are almost certainly fake which I’ve queried with trust pilot directly. The Company have continuously lied and I’m now having to pursue it via small claims court In order to try and recover my money.

as I say I hope mine is an isolated case but for anyone who hasn’t already ordered I wouldn’t trust the 5* reviews as the timing and quantum are v suspicious as well as posted by people who it’s their 1st and only review on trust pilot. I would 100% recommend waiting to see if the people above who have recently ordered ever get the mirror or their money back.

Thanks so much for posting about your experience. My 30 days is just about up but still no mirror. I was told last week I would get a delivery date by yesterday but still nothing. I went onto their chat box and asked again and they said I'll have the delivery date confirmed next week. I said I was now worried due to the reviews. I'm also think that at least some of the 5* reviews are fake, they all say the same thing with quite a few saying they got the mirror in a few days.

Something doesn't add up. I said I was worried they might be a scam but of course they assured me they are legit. I need to just wait and see. So sorry you have had such an issue. The mirror itself does look good and if they said up front it would be a 3 month wait I would still have ordered. Really hope they give you your refund. I would go along with what they ask to get your money back then leave another review, they can't demand anything from you. Good luck!

Ang69 · 05/06/2024 22:21

Just to update to anyone thinking of getting the mirror. Mine did arrive although I know a lot of people have been waiting months with very little communication. I was a bit worried it was a scam but it seems they have had issues with supply and shipping and are just generally crap at customer service and communication.

The mirror itself is fantastic, definitely worth the wait

@DavieK I hope you've had your refund by now and you find another mirror that you get to enjoy soon!

@ShuggyBug Has yours arrived yet? We ordered at the same time. Hope you have it now and are having fun!!

ShuggyBug · 09/06/2024 12:02

Hi, mine is coming tomorrow. I’m glad you like it, how are you getting on with it?

OP posts:
Ang69 · 11/06/2024 09:26

I love it! Definitely worth the wait. Looking forward to yoga and pilates being added. I already knew I was rubbish at doing squats but having the mirror tell me to go lower makes me push myself, almost like I'm scared of being told off!! How are you getting on?

ShuggyBug · 11/06/2024 17:22

It came but I haven’t opened it yet. I’m off work later in the week so will set it up then. If it makes me better at things like squats it will be worth it! I’ll report back.

Sorry to be resurrecting an old tread but wondered what everyone who brought it thinks after having it a while? I’m thinking of getting one but unsure at the moment

Ang69 · 25/03/2026 10:55

Hi, I bought it along with the bench and weights. I love it, use it 3 to 4 times a week. It now has yoga and pilates. Honestly, I'd be lost without it.

It is a big investment but so much cheaper than a gym membership, especially when you consider it can accommodate 5 profiles. It scans you every 2 weeks to work out you body composition. Probably not entirely accurate but it gives you an idea if your fat is melting!!

I'm now going to treat myself to a spin bike to add cardio. Off to look at spin threads later.
