Exercises for knee pain?

Hi, so I have been having knee pain on and off particularly when going down stairs. Not a runner but I walk and cycle a lot and do strength training.

Obviously going to go see a physio but due to having to travel and availability of said physio my appointment isn't until the end of March. Does anyone have any good exercises that have helped with similar?

(Bit concerning to have this issue as I'm only 33 and pretty healthy otherwise...)

Look at the Bob and Brad videos on knee, https://www.youtube.com/@BobandBrad/search?query=knee some are for identifying the source of pain and what to do about it.

Before you continue to YouTube

I like Dr Jo (she's a physio but in the US) on YouTube for this sort of thing.

I have had problems with my knees for years and have tried a million leg exercises (under the regimes of three different physios) with no effect. What has been transformative for me is working on my glutes and core. I do slow, careful squats and a two minute plank every morning. When your core is working properly the pressure on your knees is massively less. I very rarely have any issues with my knees these days - but if for some reason I stop doing my planks for a few days, I very soon feel it in my knees.

A physiotherapist recommended that I do bum lifts and hold it before lowering to the floor. He said this helps to strengthen the muscles above the knees and helps to strengthen them. It works for me. Side leg lifts also help

I have double jointed knees and after a horse accident a couple of years ago my knee started nagg nearly every day. I currently cycle at the gym and use the leg press and leg curl. This has really helped with strengthening my knee and I am now lifting 10kg more than when I started without pain.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to post! A lot of similar answers with regards to core exercises. I started doing more core strength and leg training recently and it's helping though I'm not quite there yet - hoping this is the solution for me!

Also had to cancel my physio appointment so I should probably book another...
