Has anyone got a treadmill desk? It's a game-changer!

Well, I'm only one week in, but so far it's been life-changing.

I've actually had a walking pad for years, but rarely used it. I'd been curious about walking desks after seeing them on Tiktok and I'm also desperate to shift a few stone.

I took the plunge just over a week ago and it's been amazing so far. I'm consistently hitting 15-20k steps everyday.

But the best part has been the impact it's had on my concentration. I WFT and have combined type ADHD. Normally, I'm up and down every 15-20 mins, constantly distracted.

But now I've got this I easily stay concentrated for 45mins to an hour.

Wish I'd done it years ago, it feels like an absolute gamer-changer.

Has anyone else got one and found it beneficial? I lost 2lb this week, so hopefully it's helping boost my weight loss efforts, too.

I'm absolutely thrilled with it 😊

Hopefully in six months time I'll have a promotion and be a size 10 lol

I'm just considering one but I'm not sure if I will be able to work on my laptop whilst walking if that makes sense? Do you find that you can do both easily ? Is your desk raised now ?

Picture please? How do you adjust your screen height?

MotherofChaosandDestruction · 10/02/2024 16:07

This sounds amazing but I just can't picture how it would work? How do you type and walk? Or do you do it in between?

nightnightcircus · 10/02/2024 16:08

I would also love to see pics and product links please!

GeneCity · 10/02/2024 16:09

I've been looking at walking pads recently, and also can't imagine how I'd be able to walk and type at the same time.

Teq · 10/02/2024 16:11

I’m jealous, OP. I have a walking pad and a stand-up desk and cannot manage to walk and look at a screen at the same time, let alone type.

wallywotwot · 10/02/2024 16:14

Maybe went I was younger and my eyes were better, just couldn't do it these days and I have a massive Mac screen

ChunkyTofu · 10/02/2024 16:17

I'm going to tidy the area in a bit and will post pictures and product links shortly :)

I was worried about the typing and walking, but I've adjusted to it quite easily. I also have dyspraxia, so my co-ordination leaves a lot to be desired. I don't even drive 'cos of this.

My job is a mixture of admin & writing. I think it might be tricky if you were a graphic designer, say.

I started on the absolute lowest setting, which is 1km and have built up to 2-2.5 km. It's still slow but it gets the steps in. I found starting so slow helped me adjust.

Will be back with pics soon!

Interesting about the ADHD. I'm the same with distractions but my balance and clumsiness could never cope with this 🤣

averythinline · 10/02/2024 16:27

I spend most of like in teams meetings is it possible....i love the idea and sounds fab

Flowersinthewindowstill · 10/02/2024 16:35

Excuse the mess, I couldn't be bothered to tidy it in the end 😂

I don't have any major complaints with either. The treadmill is fairly quiet, but it is heavy, so lugging it around is a pain for someone like me.

No complaints on the desk at all I find it a bargain for the money.

Are you now standing and walking all day?

Flowersinthewindowstill · 10/02/2024 17:01

No, I do a fast walk/jog on it for about an hour a day and then I walk while working for 1-2 hours usually. It lowers down so I can also use it like a normal desk.

OP posts:
Flowersinthewindowstill · 10/02/2024 17:04

Also, as a bonus, walking more keeps me warm so no need for heating 😂

Yes I have had this set- up for a couple of years. I love it and recommend it to lots of people. I also lost weight easily while using it. And the the benefits to concentration that you mentioned.

However I found running the treadmill was getting expensive- when i purchased mine, I didn't pay attention to how much electricity it would use. I mainly used it during meetings, so I would run it for 1-3 hours a day, I reckon it probably costs £1.50 an hour to run (I don't have a smart meter). It doesn't sound a lot, but over the month would add around £30-60 to the bill, and this was when I had a price fix, so my normal bill (without treadmill) was only £70 per month.

I've been scared to use it since and instead I'm trying to go out for a brisk walk for an hour (at lunch), which i don't often manage. I'm thinking about using it only when it is really raining outside and I really can't get out (rather than excuses and then spending hours on social media and mumsnet 😅😅).

OP, how are you finding the cost of running it?

roses2 · 10/02/2024 18:34

If you want to sit part of the day how easy is it to move and put a chair?

To be fair, I haven't been tracking. I need to do this! I mostly haven't used it much before now, but I did use it several hours a day in the run up to Christmas in a bid to offset the Xmas calories, and I didn't notice any difference. My DD actually went down in Jan, as I was overpaying. I will track next week and let you know though.

It probably depends on your set up. If I move my junk in front of the desk I can probably just move it forward. It has wheels on the front, so easy to move backwards and forewards. It's more moving it from one part of a room to the next that is more tiring. I am a weakling though so you might want to ignore me anyway!

GeneCity · 10/02/2024 23:03

I'd have room to put it down I think, but not to move it out the way far enough 😄. I've seen folding ones though 🧐.
