Broken foot (not too badly) - kick up arse/motivation needed

3 weeks ago I twisted by ankle badly while out running. I pulled the tendon so far it broke a bit off my fibula. It is being treated as a ligament injury rather than a fracture. I could have had the ortho boot, but preferred not to in favour of resting/keeping as mobile as possible - based on the level of pain.

I know I can't do any high impact sport yet, and I can only swim with a pull buoy between my legs (can't kick my foot).

I am fortunate that I love doing sport. Of course I recognise the physical (and mental) benefits and these will sometimes be the motivator to get me out when I'm short of time, the weather stinks, or I can't be arsed. But most of the time I look forward to it very much.

For the first week of my injury I really didn't feel like doing anything, I was pretty worn out just by day to day things and managing the pain.

I could do lots of things now - go to the gym, swim more, do some core/weights at home, but apart from swimming I just don't feel like it.
I think I'm in a rut. The weather isn't helping.

Shall I just stick to swimming and not give myself a hard time for not keeping up with my core/strength work? It's the cardio I miss I think.

Be kind to yourself. You're healing and that's using your energy. If you feel up to something appropriate, fair enough, but if you don't, enjoy the recovery time and come back mentally refreshed when you're ready.
