Interesting @samthebordercollie . I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for in a programme currently. Can you still do it with free weights? I actually do have a barbell at home and of course have access at the gym as well but I don't really want to mess around with them if I don't need to. At any rate that doesn't yet make me more inclined to pay for the app.

Definite DOMS in the legs today after a week+ off after being unwell...

samthebordercollie · 19/06/2024 09:14

@BigButtons yes, I see what you mean about the répétitive format and lifts in Intent. There is much less variation than the Epics but I find the repetition really effective - and I don't need the higher cardio workouts because I run. It will be interesting to see what Caroline brings out next! I listen to Mindpump and as trainers they all started out with the same huge variation in exercises as CG at the start of their careers then when they became more experienced realised that fewer exercises with the focus on traditional lifting was more effective. She seems to be going the same way.
@DreadPirateRobots yes a barbell is useful for the hip thrusts and bridges because it's easier to go heavier than with a dumbbell but free weights for everything else. I like the App because there is a huge amount of individual workouts as well as articles and menu ideas (with macros). I'm going to do a try out at my local gym tomorrow as I'd like to do try power lifting, but it's really expensive as I'm not interested in the cardio with Weights classes or the cardio machines as I run and cycle, so not sure it's worth it!

BigButtons · 19/06/2024 09:28

@samthebordercollie for me it is actually causing physical issues sadly. I think it is the set lengths plus the repetition. Intent has given me tennis elbow and issues with my knee🤷🏻‍♀️

Ah thanks @samthebordercollie . I do like the HIITs - I run and also cycle to work but I know the HIITs are useful from a cardiac POV. I'm fortunate enough to have a cheap subsidised work gym which makes it easier to split workouts across home and office. And I like the simplicity of just working my way through one of CG's programmes - I switch the days around for convenience a bit but I doggedly do them all 🙂

samthebordercollie · 19/06/2024 19:56

@BigButtons I'm sorry you are injured, but I understand the longer lifting periods can cause problems! Out of interest I just checked the number of people who completed the first workout compared to the last day of Intent - of course there will be be people still completing it but over 18000 people have done Day 1 and only 4300 Day 50🤔
@DreadPirateRobots my heart rate never gets as high during the HIT workouts as when I run, I'm obviously not doing the workouts fast or hard enough!

BigButtons · 19/06/2024 20:50

@samthebordercollie wow I didn’t realise you could check things like that😮. How interesting. I wonder when the drop off really started to happen. I think changing routines and methods up makes a difference. For example my hamstrings and bum still bloody hurt after Monday’s Bulgarian leg day and that was only 20 mins. Haven’t had some like this since a leg day in CGX iron!

@BigButtons by Day 25 (do half way through Intent) there were under half the number of people who participated in Day 1. I imagine it's the same with a lot of programs, Beastmode on the App - around 34000 participants Day 1 and around 10000 Day 50.

Pleasenomoreglitter · 20/06/2024 09:31

Interesting with the stats there. Day 25 is where I quit Intent. It was just too much for me and I was down to 2-3 sessions a week and still struggling. After a week off I went back to the app Iron and am three weeks in and able to do the 5 a week as suggested.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/06/2024 12:52

do you think the drop off is less to do with the specific workouts though and more to do with people generally don’t stick to workout programs? Think of how busy the gym is in January compared to mid February.
I have spotted the same trend on YouTube, the early sessions in iron had a lot of views but each session the number of views get progressively lower.

I think it's due to that fact that a most people don't stick to workout programs. If you look at the Ultimate beginner series on the App 28000 participants Day 1, only 4000 Day 20 (and it's only a 6 week programme[.
Unleash had a good retention rate, the best out of all the programs on the App, from 23000 Day 1 to 10000 on the last day.

BigButtons · 20/06/2024 18:24

@samthebordercollie
ueah- if you look at the crazy FB group it is the same people posting exactly the same stuff day in day out.
i noticed some posters stopped posting during intent.
i would have liked it as a 6 week series . As part of this week’s schedule it was intent day 5. I managed to go heavier with the Bulgarians 15kg- using the new chair method 🤣. So heavier than last time and I didn’t mind it. I think it got too crazy in the last 3 weeks- personally.
she has burpee session on Sunday- haven’t one in yonks so expect bits of me to break off🧐😱

Also- I’m off on one now- I have very mixed feelings about doing things live. I like hearing other people’s experiences but at the same time I feel this awful pressure to keep up.

Menora · 21/06/2024 08:17

I do Caroline on YT but I tend to do the same 10-15 videos in rotation instead of the long programmes. The problem I have is that I don’t know what’s in the new ones and I am a creature of habit so I tend to stick to what I know. Some of the stuff in her videos is too hard for me to do, or uncomfortable. I find it hard to follow a programme because I don’t actually want to do something new every single day. If I find a video I like and can do the whole thing I stick it on a playlist and rotate it. I will eventually add new ones in when I come across them and finding the old ones a bit samey

samthebordercollie · 21/06/2024 09:15

@BigButtons I've never done a programme live for the same reason, plus I hate all the reviews of today's workout on the FB group, like the reviews on the App most of which overdo the difficulty of each session (or maybe I'm just not lifting heavy enough or working hard enough as I'm never a sweaty mess at the end!)
@Menora I understand and have a few hour long full body workouts I do regularly. But I like following a programme because I'd probably skip all chest and triceps exercises otherwise as hate workouts which involve a lot of lying on a mat! Like abs too, the time passes really slowly.

Another reason I love the App is that I can listen to my own podcasts rather than the music but still hear the beeps. I finished intent yesterday, at the end there were a series of outtakes with a lot of the, mistakes Caroline made during various introductions. Makes you realise how much work goes into each programme she produces, no wonder she can't do consecutive long programs continually! Although some App users seem to think she should 🙄

Menora · 21/06/2024 11:10

I have found a few which I don’t skip hardly anything which helps! I like arms and chest but I am not that strong yet so still building up. Rear delt flys I find very hard so I am just working on getting them right which I quite enjoy rather than having to keep learning new moves. I’m not great at curtsy lunges either so either I will just do normal ones or I will keep trying. Once I feel I can do a whole session easily I will move on from it. I like her triple one this month

sunshinechaser · 26/06/2024 08:13

Anyone knowledgeable about casting from the CGX app to a screen? I'm really clueless! I usually work out using a projector and big screen and follow CG YouTube workouts no problem. However I've now got the CGX app and having real trouble casting to my screen. I can cast the 3 minute 'intro' videos no problem-they play on the big screen perfectly. However when the main workout video starts the screen on my phone and the big screen just goes blank and I can't play it. I need to then follow the workout on my phone instead which is rubbish! I can't see how she is holding her body properly!
I could ask on the Facebook group but I'm not confident anyone could help, I've removed the app and added it again but no difference.

Menora · 26/06/2024 09:03

Do you have an iPhone? Mine won’t let me cast anything apart from YT to a chrome cast without an Apple adaptor/Apple TV.

samthebordercollie · 26/06/2024 09:33

With my old TV I used Chromecast to cast my iPhone to the TV, it worked perfectly. The App is designed for that. I now have a TV with Airplay so I can cast directly to the TV.

samthebordercollie · 26/06/2024 09:36

@sunshinechaser if you skip the intro and just go straight to the workout will that work?

BigButtons · 26/06/2024 12:01

I have an iPhone and a non smart tv. I bought a Roku stick cheaply off Amazon- had to replace my old now tv stick anyway. Works easily even for idiots like me.

Thanks all-I'll speak to DH tonight (I am not great with these things) and try and get a solution. I have an iPhone and I often try and skip the intro but nothing seems to work. I like the app and would love to keep doing workouts from it so fingers crossed I get a fix.

I’ve had no luck casting from the app on my iPhone to my tv. Which uses an Amazon Firestick.

sunshinechaser · 26/06/2024 16:06

Really @Abra1t? Rubbish! I wish the CGX app was available to pick on a smart TV. How long does it take to get it sorted? Admittedly I have no clue how long it might take 😂

samthebordercollie · 26/06/2024 16:17

It definitely works with Chromecast. Saying that in one of the FB groups people have been reporting problems with black screens for certain programs and workouts whilst others work.

DreadPirateRobots · 29/06/2024 11:23

Did Epic III 6, back and biceps yesterday and man I am feeling it. Except I was rowing a 12.5kg to her 17.5. man that woman terrifies me.
