Bodypump or Reformer Pilates?

My New Year’s resolution is to go to a few gym classes a week. I am fairly fit. I would like to do one bodypump class and one reformer Pilates class, but wondering if it would be better to choose one class and do it twice a week otherwise I might become jack of all trade, master of none….Any advise?

Both is better. Pilates will teach you how to use your muscles right and body pump will do better at adding general strength.

I do body pump one night a week and reformer Pilates one night a week 😁

I'd do both. I do a mix of classes e.g. pump, attack, combat, lbt, balance

So is it better to mix it up? Will I ever improve if I only do one class a week? I also run so only really have time for 2 classes. I want to build strength and flexibility.

I've been wondering similar, @OlgafromOttomon. I hate doing the same exercise more than once (maybe twice) a week, but I do wonder if it just means I never have much improvement.

I think doing both, at least to start with, is a good idea. The Pilates will help your technique and strengthen your core for body pump, so they are good complementary sessions. You will progress doing one class a week, just not as quickly as if you do two of the same thing (but you’ll have a better overall balance of activities). You may find over time you enjoy one more than the other and then you can focus.

I also run too (slowly) so don’t have much more time than that with 3 young kids. Honestly do both. You can definitely improve with one of each a week.

Both. I do body pump and body balance and I find that hits a lot of what I need to hit. I’ve taken a break over Christmas and I really feel it.

best exercise is the one you actually do. So try both, maybe you will love one a lot more, then decide.
