My genuine tip is…….use it. Whenever or wherever, wearing what you like, watching tv or not, just sit on it and move the pedals. That’s it. Don’t get too hung up on gears or whatever. Just move your legs.

And if you want to get fit fast, try interval training: cycle for 30 seconds as fast as you can go - get your RPM over 100. Then pull it back for 30 seconds, then go again. Try it for 10 intervals.

Our bodies get used to 'steady-state' aerobic conditioning - that's the point. Our bodies are very efficient at conserving calories, so you start to expend fewer calories. Interval training challenges the body and thus you use up more calories!

But losing weight is mostly about what & how much you eat.

Losing weight happens in the kitchen but a stationary bike is great for fitness!

I use mine when I want to watch a 40 minute or 50 minute tv show. I don’t keep track of speed or reps or anything like that. I just do my best and no pressure.

I really enjoy Fulgaz - they provide virtual rides that have been filmed all over the world. Indoor cycling is a bit mindnumbing at the best of times and feeling (kind of) like I'm cycling through Iceland or Japan keeps me sane. Probably best if you have a 'smart' bike that connects to the app (it adjusts the gradient to match the virtual terrain) but not sure it's essential.

Lastexmouse · 26/12/2023 19:27

I do the cycling whilst listening to a radio show on BBC sounds or a podcast.
Can't see the TV from where the bike is positioned

Means I do 25 to 30 mins without thinking about it.

This! It's an absolute killer but it's golden.

Also you can't burn off a bad diet.

I've got one I've not used for ages, largely because I couldn't set it up to watch tv. But I've just acquired a music stand, which I'm going to position in front of the bike and put my iPad on, so I can stream and pedal. Just need to move the mountain of clothes off the bike first....

I cycled on it for 40 mins in front of tv the other night

Music and / or tv helps
