Anyone ditched wearable tech?

For the past 4 years I’ve had a garmin for all my runs and an Apple Watch for other exercise & just for all the useful features (Apple Pay, controlling Spotify etc)

Anyway I’m running fine but my pb days are probably behind me.

I stopped posting anything to strava about 2 years ago. This helped comparison being the thief of joy. Garmin connect has been useful but I’m wondering what the point is really.

I was looking on eBay and could sell both watches easy enough.

Has Anyone done this? Why am I tracking my stats? What am I doing with this info? Is it helping my mental health really??

The best thing with these trackers is just knowing that you walk 10k steps daily. And you can do that just fine on your Iphone. As soon as I gain weight I can just check my steps. That keeps a peach of mind for me at least.

I honestly can’t handle looking at my HR without it inducing serious anxiety. I had it a few times where a machine at the gym goes haywire and the numbers go rapidly up suddenly out of the blue! I do mini check ins - I will hold on the HR bars briefly to check it now and again. A watch would make me stressed

Ignore the HR on machines in the gym, especially if they are those palm rest ones. They are total rubbish. I have a treadmill at home with one and I honestly don't know why they bothered.

I've never shared my stats. But I do keep an eye on them. This year I've had covid and an ankle fracture. Both times it was invaluable having little targets every day / week to aim for during my recoveries.

Yes I haven’t actually given it up.

I’ve started the Nike Run Club training plan and I absolutely love it. Way better than my previous depressing plodding.

Even In the last 2 weeks I’ve felt much stronger. I’ve done parkrun & xc and have enjoyed looking back to the same courses a few years ago and finding 2023 me is better.

The tech is here to stay!
