First pilates session - what to expect and what to wear?

I've finally managed to book a session that suits my timetable but having never been to a pilates class in person, is shorts and T-shirt okay or do I need leggings and a tight top so that the instructor can see whether my form is correct?

TIA

Go with comfortable. I've been to a variety of classes and there never has been a dress code as such.

A close fitting top would be easier for the instructor to see your form though, which might be a good idea for you if just starting out. There are soft nuances to see for pelvic tilt which might be harder to spot in looser clothing.

Okay, thanks. I have a sports crop top that might work.

I tend to avoid shorts because you'll have your legs all over the place and I only wear looser fitting ones. Should be fine if they're close fitting so you're not worried about flashing

I wear gym leggings and a close fitting long-line vest top, with a looser top over that I can take off when I get warm.

Remember you are going to be twisting and turning and rolling up to your shoulders, so you don't want a top that's going to end up sliding up to your armpits and exposing your whole body and bra. My pilates teacher prefers people to cover up, in case she has to do hands-on correct form. Bare flesh would make it uncomfortable for her.

Most people at my class wear leggings. Shorts are okay, with proper pants beneath -- no thongs!

Have you been OP? I wear leggings, tight vest, loose t shirt. The vest is just so I don't flash. Also yoga non slip socks. No one wears shorts in my class. Enjoy.

@FabFitFifties Yes, I went yesterday. Thanks for asking.

In the end I wore a crop top, a fitted t-shirt and leggings. I didn't know about yoga socks, but did see some people wear them.

I think I'll go again, it seems very good for flexibility, balance and core strength. Most of the attendees were a fair bit older than me but their flexibility puts me to shame. I'm stiff as a board!
