Indoor exercise ideas

I'm wanting to take on a new hobby to help me with my weight loss journey - trouble is any sort of bad weather puts me off instantly 🙈 so I'm looking for an indoor activity/sport. Bonus points if it's something competitive (not to do even remotely professional, just that I like games). Throw your ideas at me!

Caroline Girvan is great, but definitely start with the Beginner series- she's tough.
That said, I hate to say it, but you can't be that driven to exercise if a bit of bad weather puts you off...!

I have been contemplating my stairs recently. Considering what if every time I have to go up or down, I double back and repeat? That would surely be good for my legs? If you timed yourself going up and down a certain number of times, you could then try to break that ' personal best' to bring in a sense of competition. Either by speed or by increasing the number of times you go up and down in that time.

I have an unlimited pass for an exercise place. I love the classes. My ‘competition’ with myself is to see how cheap I can make the classes by attending loads. So it’s £60 and this month I’ll do 24 (booked or done), so it works out at £2.50 per class. I’ve not got under that actually.

I also compete against the instructor, making my corrections before she tells me to. She knows I try and do this so it makes it fun…in a weird way!

I also do something else twice a week, so that’s 8 more classes.

I don’t get on with exercising at home, as this weekend has proved

Thanks all. I'm happy to go to another location it doesn't specifically need to be at home, I just don't like being out in bad weather. I gave clubbercise a go which was fun. I'm going to go to one of our local gyms and take a look at their classes on offer

If you want competitive CrossFit as mentioned below is, or powerlifting too. I don't know that much about CrossFit, but powerlifting is accessible and welcoming at all levels. People start competing at all ages, including in retirement. I watched a tiktok yesterday of a 75 year old in her first comp. And it's very much inside.

My work colleague does netball (she's in her 40's) just for fun at the local leasure centre. They do games and competitions- some outdoor- might be worth enquiring.

Cheap pushbike on a smart turbo trainer hooked up to Zwift on your phone/tablet - you can both second hand.

There are races against other people and group rides pretty much on the hour 24/7!!

Or if you don't fancy a race you can do a workout (like spin class) or just ride around.

Indoor Rowing? Can do train at home and there are indoor competitions.
