What app do you log your walks on?

Hi, I want to start walking much more in 2023 and I wondered what apps people used to log what they've walked? Currently, I just look on my iPhone at my daily steps, but I assume a lot of people log their 'proper' walks differently?

Strava

Garmin watch and also upload to Strava

Strava (although I record on my Garmin and then sync in to Strava, so have it on both Garmin Connect and Strava). I also run and cycle so use it for all activities.

Thanks folks- Strava seems to be the one! And is the free version sufficient or do you pay a subscription?

I have the free version. I did have a trial of the premium version but there was no benefit for walking. I do feel that walking is treated as a second class sport on Strava - don't have the options that you get for running etc

Map my run as it has a feature to choose the type of exercise so I can log cycling too. And it syncs with My fitness Pal too.

WalkingWilma · 18/12/2022 10:37

Thanks @Rassy - it'll definitely be walking only for now. (Maybe running will be in my future but definitely now now 😬)

Thanks @toomuchfaster I'll look at Map My Run too (I'd assumed it was just for running).

The free version of Strava will be fine!

ReviewingTheSituation · 18/12/2022 15:34

Strava (free version is fine) is way better than Map my Run, IMO. I usually record on my Garmin, which then syncs to Strava, but have used the phone app too and it's accurate. If you have an apple watch, you can record on Strava from your watch.

My smart watch (and so app) picks up walks, exercise etc. There's a mini location map attached; also time, distance etc.

Have a garmin watch which syncs to Strava. But Strava on its own is good enough. the free version of Strava is perfectly adequate, I’m mostly a runner and have it. I tried the paid for on a free trial and none of the extra info was worth paying for.

I wear my watch all the time so it counts my steps. I don’t carry my phone round with me so it wouldn’t be accurate.

I used map my walk on my iPhone for over a year. Gave me maps, speed, distance, totals, targets. All free

WalkingWilma · 18/12/2022 22:15

Thanks all, very helpful!

I use mapometer and log them or plan them or both manually. Usually my walks are too long to run a tracking app in the background on my phone even with a backup battery.
