Any other London marathoners out there?

6 days to go - how are you feeling...?

I'm nervous and excited in equal measure. I don't remember feeling like this before previous marathons. I just want the day to be here now. Given I applied (via my charity) at the start of 2019, it's been the longest build up ever.

Just came on to see if anyone else had mentioned it on here.. yes! I don’t know how I feel 😂 slightly in denial I think. I’m going to London on Friday night so I think by then I’ll be completely terrified

Also applied so long ago.. applied for my charirt place in 2019 to do 2020, didn’t happen then had a baby last year and now finally able to do it!

Not running but will be out supporting as it goes down my road. If anyone here is happy to share name / runner ID either here or in DM, I will happily look out for you and cheer you on!

Me. I’ve got a speedy runners place and am not very speedy at the moment so thoroughly not looking forward to being overtaken for the entire 3 and a half hours ill be there

chloechloe · 27/09/2022 22:06

Not me, but I did it 12 years ago and it’s amazing! A 26.2 mile party, the atmosphere is incredible. I’ll get round to doing it again another day. Have a fantastic race all of you!

3 and a half is still speedy to me - I'll be at least 45 mins behind you!

Off to the expo tomorrow- exciting!

How did it go @Lastqueenofscotland2 and @Sparklythings1?
I loved the first 3 hrs (although found it quite overwhelming at times), and found the last 1hr 15 tough. But delighted with a 4 minute PB of 4hrs 16.

Can't deal with stairs today though!!

Hey runners! I've just come on to see if there are any threads about this. I did London yesterday and it was my first marathon! The crowd were AMAZING but anyone else slightly underwhelmed by the finish?

ReviewingTheSituation · 03/10/2022 18:16

I was just relieved to get to the finish!

The crowds were just something else - just unbelievable. So different from any other race I've ever done. But if it wasn't for the crowds, it would be the dullest race on earth! Apart from Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge and the last mile, there's just nothing to look at!

But I've entered the ballot for next year, of course...

@ReviewingTheSituation aw I was really similar, I felt like I was sort of gliding my way round up til half way then was able to maintain it til 30k ish but when we reached that straight that I knew eventually lead to the embankment I was just struggling to keep up any sort of pace above a basic jog. I was on track for sub 4 for a while but almost sort of made the decision that I didn’t want it anymore 😂 I had spent ages staring at crowds for a lot of the miles as I knew my family would be soon then after I saw them at canary wharf I just decided I wasn’t looking again. I was so exhausted and even people shouting ‘only 2 miles’ etc was annoying me! Ended up with 4:05 so I was still happy with that!

@Upstairsdownstairs30 i was so looking forward to getting to run down the mall and I’d heard people say how long it feels but omg 🙈 it went on for sooo long! I barely even glanced at buckingham palace, I was beyond caring by that point!

After reading that a 36 year old man died between mile 23 and 24 though I haven’t been able to stop thinking about him. The fact he packed his bag, dropped it off, stood in the starting area the same as me, he was maybe even near me then the worst happened 😞 I can’t get my head round it. I was looking at my medal tonight just thinking how strange he didn’t get one and is now in a morgue when the rest of us are celebrating this achievement. So tragic 😢 Just feel so lucky to be okay! I kept thinking of the girl Claire Squires on the way round it too, that was 10 years since she died I realised tonight
