Newly returned to running - schedule?

I used to be a prolific runner years ago. Bad health, diet, putting on weight took me out of it for a good few years but I have started again and loving it.

Can I just ask, how often do you run in a week? I used to run almost every day - between 5 & 10 km as I just loved it so much and was good for mental health. I'm pretty fit as I walk up to 12k steps every day anyway as part of my daily routine.

I'm now averaging 4-5km each run. Can I do this every day? How many rest days would you think I need? I'm in my late forties if that's relevant. Thanks :)

I’m 43 and I usually run 5km three times a week, sometimes with an extra, longer run on a Saturday. I couldn’t manage a run every day - I definitely need rest days (although I do strength workouts a couple of times a week as well).

I'm marathon training and I run 5 or 6 days a week. Couldn't run every day. I have tried it and after two weeks I'm so tired the running is just a struggle and not enjoyable at all.

I'd gradually add in an extra run per week as I felt comfortable with it. Possibly a shorter one as I adjusted and build it back up to my usual load.

I normally run 4x a week. Currently marathon training so 5x has been standard for a few months, and have had a couple of weeks where it's been 6x. It will feel odd when I go back to 'just' 4x.

Do whatever works for you, but do listen to your body. Don't let niggles develop, or you'll be back to 0x again!

I run every other day, normally a 4 - 5k dep how my body responds on the day. I'm early 40s.
