Why is running still so hard?

I did C25K 2 years ago. I run 3 times a week (2×5k slowly and a briefer sprint). I still feel like I'm dying and it's just unpleasant. Much older runners than me seem to be able to enjoy it, even hold conversations! What am I doing wrong?

@BuddhaAtSea sorry, hope you don’t mind me tagging you but what you said about heart being healthy struck a chord. I hope you are getting better post covid.

I ran a 5k today in 36 minutes - across country - grass, uneven paths, stiles, streams, etc. my heart rate reached 182. I’ve had heart problems before. I’m now wondering how I can check if my heart is healthy….I know that’s a big question but reading what you wrote after pushing myself to run a 36 minute 5k made me wonder!

Of course I don’t mind.
I’m ok-ish now, thank you. Still slightly high troponin, but I’m healing. It was a combo of Covid, exhaustion, broken heart. Because I know what caused it, and because I was pretty fit beforehand, I decided not do much but rest and increase the stress I put on it gradually.

We don’t do preventative medicine in this country anymore, you get seen if there’s a problem, but it’s worth seeing the GP and see if they can refer you.

Sometimes I also facing this problem during my running hours, sometimes I feel so lonely or very tiredness due to some problem. One thing, you should remember, during your running hours, don't think about your family problem and your body weight condition. Sometimes, it will also make some trouble in your mind. So please cool and calm to reach your goal.

OP, some people just aren't designed to run. I've struggled with it all my adult life even when I was young, skinny and extremely fit. Apparently 5% of people lack a gene that ensures oxygen is carried to every cell in the body, making running for any length of time very difficult impossible I'm great at any exercise that uses short, sharp bursts of energy like martial arts and HIIT but when it comes to running I can only do interval training.

My heart rate is always around 180. Whether a 5k or 10 k. I've been fairly fit for nearly 20 years. I only worry if it heads towards 190. Got to 200 when pregnant (long time ago) and post covid.
