Fitness trackers/smartwatches (Ionic replacement)

So, Fitbit have recalled Ionic smartwatches, and I'm considering a replacement. However, I'm struggling to find something that combines the two things that made me choose the Ionic in the first place

  • GPS
  • built-in music so I can put MP3s on it (not music via a streaming service)

Many of the features of smartwatches are things I don't care about (email, payments etc). Should I be looking at trackers rather than smartwatches? Is there something that has both GPS and music? I get a 40% discount on fitbit so I've been looking there first, but so far I can't see anything.

Any suggestions?

I've got the sense (husband got it for me for Xmas after ionic started dying) although you do have to stream music.

Garmin 245 Music. It's one of the more basic Garmins but will still do everything you need and more - and Garmins are far better than Fitbit/Apple watch etc.

If by GPS you mean will record your routes without connecting to watch, then Garmin vivoactive4s does all of that and looks more like a smart watch. But you don't get the same level of detail on your runs etc as you do on a forerunner I think? I have one and love it but, but I'm not training for anything in particular, just run when I can and aiming to stay consistent at the minute , so it's enough for me. If you are out on trails for hours or into big miles each week, you might be better with a forerunner?

Agree! I have the non-music version and it's brilliant. Does everything i need for running, walking, swimming and more. Battery life is also good.

Thanks all, I'll take a look at these suggestions.

Music is non-negotiable, and I'm not a serious runner so I don't want to spend loads of money.

I have the Garmin Venu Music which I love.

I have an Ionic too. Have you started the refund process?

I've been reading posts from a lot of people on the Facebook page who are having problems. 1.7 million Ionics out there so the process is struggling

You get £225 refund in 3-6 weeks and 40% off a new model. I'm still thinking about what to do. I love my Ionic but had one stop working before my current one

I've been looking at the Charge 5, it's the only other model I like the look of and you get WhatsApp notifications unlike on the Ionic. Fairly certain the Charge 5 doesn't play music though

Loads of tracker reviews out there for you to read

I have a Garmin 235. Last time I looked the base model 45 (not 245) did everything the 235 does. The features flow down with each new watch.

For music I just buy a cheap mp3 player with a clip on the back and clip it to my watch strap. £20 will get you an mp3 player with radio and Bluetooth.

Oooh I'm interested in this too as I need to replace my Ionic and not sure what to get.

I'm also a bit worried as I've started the refund process but not had anything after the initial email - so no voucher code or request for bank details etc for the refund. Feel like I'm currently in limbo as I can't buy anything until the refund/voucher code is issued and don't think I can use my Ionic either 😔

Sorry to highjack OP but can I ask if anyone has had the refund/voucher code yet?
