Mountain climbers question..

I used to train regularly and was strong and fit. Fast forward and 2 kids later I feel like a newbie in the gym!

I seem to be really struggling with 'basic' moves. My one avoidance currently is mountain climbers I just can't do them! What muscle group do I need to be training and any suggestions on how to improve? A lot of my classes incorporate them and I am so embarrassed to be unable to do them. I have strong lower body but my arm strength is still nowhere near it was. My core is also weak but improving.

Any advise would be appreciated x

Planks are a simple way of getting strength in the main position and good for the core anyway.

Practice the movement side at different levels, first at an angle towards a wall and work to a lower level until you're on the floor via chair then step.

Press-ups are worth practising this way too.

I agree, or use stairs if you have them, working downwards. Or do them on floor but really slowly to practice, making sure you keep your hips down. Stairs are good for push up practice too.
