YouTubers for the old and flabby
23

ruthypfdraper · 30/01/2022 11:07

I'm looking for YouTube cardio/strength videos but sick of finding loads of young slim very fit people giving me moves I can't manage! I'm 48 and arthritic and interested in exercise to manage a long term condition rather than to get a perfect body.

I like team Body Project because the moves are simple and they have people with real bodies doing the workouts. The coach Daniel is great at motivating speeches.

I like Growwithjo because she does simple moves and is warm and smiley. She also doesn't talk!

Not a fan of pop sugar or Joe Wicks.
What else might I like please? And why if you can be bothered to say Smile. I need variety to keep me going.

If you like no talking try reps to rhythm for gentle cardio. I like penny barnshaw for strength, she also just has music and no talking.

Thanks, I like the look of reps to rhythm at first glance. Will give the other one a try.

Kaisa has a website just move which is good. Not she if she has any stuff on YouTube.

She starts at a basic, fat and flabby level 😁

I've got the FitOn app, which has loads of workouts for all abilities. The trainers are generally slim, and talk a fair bit (all American), but I haven't found it as annoying as I sometimes do, I think because unlike a dvd you can do different workouts and not get too used to what they're saying. Also, I only have the video on my phone, so you don't have a skinny irritating person in your face large on the TV 😅

Pahla B fitness. No jumping, nothing on the ground, no high impact. There's a 30 day weight loss workout, one for each day, a 30 day body shaper programme, a walk off the weight programme, loads of stuff. She does cardio, toning, strength, but it's tailored for women over 50. I started at 48 and she's the only person I've ever stuck with as it's all doable and nothing is too hard, so it's actually enjoyable . Look for the stuff from the last 2 years, she did much harder stuff before that, but if you find her channel, it will be easy to find her recent stuff.

Oooh so glad to see some responses here with excellent suggestions. I've done Lesley S too, quite like those, the preppy smiley guy in those makes me laugh, like he's overdosed on endorphins Grin.

I did reps to rhythm this morning and enjoyed it but think I prefer HIIT type stuff with a strength element.

I second Penny Barnshaw on YouTube, I also recommend Tracy Steen, who has a good variety of strength and cardio workouts.
I can also recommend C Dorner fitness if you like old school aerobics and step, although she does strength workouts as well. Michelle Briehler is another of my faves, she does different strength and cardio but also pilates and barre.
Absolutely love my YouTube workouts!

I like Get Fit with Rick for simple step workouts. I WFH and spend most of my day in meetings so a few times per week when I have a gap or a meeting finishes early I put one of his workouts on and dance around the living room for 10-15 minutes getting my steps in. He is lovely and easy on the eye (in my opinion) which helps!

I did this one this morning. Really liked her. She comes across really down to earth and helpful. The exercises were just challenging enough to get me sweaty and build in some weights. She did lots of helpful stretches too. A winner!

Tried Pahla B and Tracy Steen in last few days. Pahla exercises are perfect for me but wasn't so keen on the constant talking. Tracy Steen was a great low impact session. I'll probably go back to them both.

Mr Motivator, straight forward Old Skool workouts. The Daily Dozen series that he did 2020-21 is good.

Agree if you don't like chat you won't like Pahla - she doesn't shut up! Personally I don't mind it as it makes the time go faster and I just zone out on what she's actually banging on about. The exercises are really good though esp the weights routines.

Great idea for a thread - thanks @ruthypfdraper.

I’m rubbish at exercising but really need to and due to being unfit, very overweight and with dodgy knees I need something I can actually do.

I will never ever do a burpee!

Will have a look at some of these and give them a try.

Ban the burpee! Grin
Glad this is helpful to others. I forgot about mr motivator! I'll check him out next.
