Anyone back at the gym today?

Or did anyone even go yesterday on Christmas Day?

I'm heading off shortly but feel like other people friends think this is a bit sad and the gym is one thing you can leave for a few days over Christmas.

I would go if was a gym member and am planning to go running.

Not anyone else’s business!

Dozer · 26/12/2021 09:50

I don’t mention my exercise choices to friends.

gamerchick · 26/12/2021 09:51

Mines closed today otherwise I would.

LethargeMarg · 26/12/2021 09:51

I'm just about to go for a short jog to burn off a few calories to make space for all the leftovers and wine I will be enjoying this afternoon 😀

MrsJBaptiste · 26/12/2021 10:04

@LethargeMarg Well exactly, that is the main reason to go to the gym isn't it? Wink

@Dozer I know but we get chatting and they are quite scathing as in "Oh God, why bother? Just start again next year now" and "You don't even need to go, just stay at home" (I very much do need to go by the way!)

I’m off for a really long walk soon and back to running tomorrow. If anyone commented on my choices I would just laugh. Enjoy your gym session

Dozer · 26/12/2021 10:07

People have all sorts of thoughts/feelings about food and exercise, and say all sorts of stuff. Doesn’t matter much what others think or say though.

Pucarbuile · 26/12/2021 10:12

I'm psyching myself up to go for a gentle jog. Mainly to shake off a hangover Blush

8lue8ird · 26/12/2021 10:13

I would but I woke up a bit chesty feeling. Confused

stalkersaga · 26/12/2021 10:16

I don't have a gym membership as such, but I ran yesterday and hopefully will either do same again today or some yoga. I need to get out of the house on Christmas Day or I go spare, I find it and all the food very claustrophobic and oppressive otherwise. My PT also merrily kicked my arse on the 23rd as usual.

I love running. I like to exercise. I'd feel crap without it and don't want a "break" of longer than a day.

hellocleveland · 26/12/2021 10:20

Who cares what anyone thinks? You just do what you want to do. Exercise continues throughout the year for me no matter what day it is. I did parkrun yesterday and going out for a longer trail run now. I enjoy it and can't think of a better way to spend my Christmas weekend. Enjoy!

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 26/12/2021 10:43

I always think it's funny when people say you can have a break on Christmas Day/birthday, as if a run is to be endured. I love running, and it makes my day better, so why wouldn't I want to run on Christmas Day?

I managed six miles yesterday and am out for a walk right now

InvincibleInvisibility · 26/12/2021 10:46

Ive just got back a 2.5km swim. Pool was nicely filled with people swimming so definitely not the only one with that idea. Did me a LOT of good physically but most importantly mentally.

dementedpixie · 26/12/2021 10:46

My gym is shut. I will do classes Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday as its open then

jerometheturnipking · 26/12/2021 10:48

Not the gym but doing my home workout today. I was going to go for a run but the weather is shite and I'm a bit hungover to face that Xmas Grin. I don't understand the "oh have a break" attitude. Exercise is what I do to relax and for fun, why should I not do something I enjoy?

I only don't do a workout/run on Christmas day because there's not enough time to do that AND to go out for a walk with the kids with the timings of people coming to ours and doing the food prep.

ColleysMill · 26/12/2021 10:49

If my gym was open I'd be there - opens again tomorrow though

coogee · 26/12/2021 10:49

I’m away from home so went for a run instead. Planning a route in unfamiliar surroundings was a challenge. I’m used to rural openness. Suburbia is very different.

CovidCorvid · 26/12/2021 10:49

Would be if it was open. Having to make do with the turbo trainer instead.

StealingYourWiFi · 26/12/2021 10:53

I exercise at home. Feel knackered today so will lay about on sofa until I feel guilty and lazy and get up to do something Grin will either be a spin class, run or treadmill and weights Bootcamp class.

Lottapianos · 26/12/2021 10:54

Do it OP, and ignore the people who obviously see exercise as punishment. You will feel brilliant afterwards. We stayed home last Christmas and I did a home workout every other day all through the festive period, plus plenty of walks. We're with my parents this year and I would give anything for a good weights session today!

Crazzzycat · 26/12/2021 11:02

Surely whether going to the gym is a bit sad or not depends on how you feel about exercise? If you consider it a chore, then may be skip it for a few days. If on the other hand you enjoy exercise, or use it for your mental health or whatever, then I don’t see why it would be sad to exercise on Christmas Day, or any other day.

I really got into exercise this year and have a couple of machines at home. I did half an hour yesterday. I plan to do at least an hour today. Why wouldn’t you, if it makes you feel good?

MrsJBaptiste · 26/12/2021 13:05

I'm back! Had a great session along with a lot of other people as the gym (which is huge) was pretty full. Now full of endorphins and ready for some food 👍

Not today, but im booked onto numerous classes over the next week from tomorrow - actually looking forward to it!

Yellowshirt · 26/12/2021 13:45

I'm going to drag myself out for a run 🤞at 2.30. I'll let you no if I manage it. But honestly afterwards I feel refreshed.

Yellowshirt · 26/12/2021 14:08

I actually find it sadder that I spent most of yesterday in bed instead of running for at least an hour. It sorts my head out
