I just want one that I can wear either to keep my ears or neck warm, and I like to idea of turning it into a balaclava, bandana etc.

There's thermonet, coolnet, etc... how do I know which is the right one for me? Please help!

I like Buff ones, but I haven't tried the others! I do have a random brand hedgehog one too. I'd probably try to look for an environmentally friendly one if I was buying one now.

I have a merino one - found on offer in a random country clothes shop.

I've also got a couple of thinner cotton ones - good for stopping drafts round the neck but not so good over ears) and a half fleece one (ski-ing shop) for the depths of winter.

I have a load of Luna band ones.
5 for a set price.

Nice and light so scrunch up to a headband without being too tight but equally don’t slip off mid class.

Oh, and I have a cow cowl (only available to prolific parkrun tourists)

Icebreaker merino, I’ve had mine for years. Sleep in it, run in it, very comfortable, natural (I hate the feel of plastic/polyester against my skin). Very warm but I don’t over heat in it, it’s brilliant. It’s not long enough to pull up as a balaclava (it does cover my mouth and nose) but I have a bamboo balaclava from BAMboo clothing for that. Although I rarely wear it, the icebreaker wins out more often than not.

Some good suggestions, thanks.

Are some of the non Buff ones also versatile and mutlifunctional?

There's also a Scottish company called Findra that make beautiful merino ones in lots of colours or with fine stripes.

The offer is crazy, buy 1 get 4 free (I don't know why they don't just sell them cheaper) but they have some lovely colours and designs

Same offer on lunabands

That is crazy! Why so cheap? Do you own any yourself and are they decent quality?

I have had a look and am really spoilt for choice, thank you. I will also look at lunabands, thanks Helenluvsrob.

I buy cheap (price) Chinese ones. About £2 delivered? They are all microfibre, anyway.

For headband (cycling, must fit under helmet) I have a fleecy one which is wonderful when weather very cold.

I've got 5 of the Hygge ones and they're great. I also get loads as freebies at various running events so we've got a drawer full at home!

Myauldman · 05/12/2021 21:16

Husband and I both have the smartwool 250 weight merino ones and we both agree they’re one of the best pieces of kit we have. Double layered and very warm and cozy so work really well as a hat or scarf/balaclava. Might be too thick/warm depending on what you want it for.

Wigeon · 05/12/2021 21:17

I’ve got several Hygge ones and they’re lasting well. I find them soft and comfortable, and nice designs. Think I’ve had mine around a year. Definitely only get them when they’re on a “4 for 1” type deal though.

AltitudeCheck · 05/12/2021 21:17

I have several of the hygge bands and I like them, they're quite thin but they've washed fairly well and are going strong 2 years later.

I don't like being too warm - they're perfect for keeping the wind off of ears /hair out the way /using as a sweat band

... eBay. 3 for £7 or 5 for £8. Search for "snood"
