VO2 max - what is yours and how much do you exercise?

Just interested to know what vo2 max people have.

I’m 47, exercise a fair bit and mine is 41-42. Apple tells me that’s high, which is nice, but I don’t feel like I’m super super fit really. So I’m wondering, how high can it go for women of my age and if I really ramped up training? What is a good/realistic target for progress, if you know what I mean?

I just had a look at how it’s calculated on the Apple Watch. They are claiming a decent accuracy.

Mine definitely only gives me a measure when I do my dog walk, there’s no measure given with any form of strenuous exercise. I think it definitely tracks the direction accurately, maybe the number itself might be off a little?

Have you read the paper written by Apple in detail?

They performed exercise tests with participants wearing an apple watch. They don't say the participant's VO2 max was measured by any other parameter other than those recorded by the watch during workouts.

The figure on p9 show the apple watch recording on a treadmill or bike compared to the same apple watch worn during a work out.

Now the MAY have actually measured VO2 max but they don't say they did, which makes me inclined to think they didn't.

I am 45 and mine is 43, sometimes 44 according to my Garmin. I do a 12 mile run at the weekend then a few gym classes/swim/run type thing during the week , nothing too impressive but fairly consistent. Regardless of whether of not the VO2 Max is right most the people on this thread, me included, appear to be doing a lot more vigorous exercise than probably the average for our ages so I guess it’s just a validation of that!
