I've couch to 5k a few times. This times I can't get past week four where you run for 3 and then 5 minutes. It's hellish. I keep trying but I can't push past it.

It's pathetic.

In between runs I walk my dogs every day for 5kms.

What can I do?

Seconding the advice about weight training. I used to run a very slow 5k three times a week (at about 7.8kph), then started doing Body Pump classes at the gym a few weeks ago. I’m still not fast, but I now do three 6k runs per week and this morning’s was my fastest yet: 8.7kph. I’m certain that the weight training has increased my overall strength and had a positive impact on my speed and endurance.

In the starting stage, I also face the same problem, I also not continue my running exercise more than 6 minutes, Later I do follow some simple steps before start my running exercise.

  1. Start you running at morning time. 5:30 a.m.
  2. Drink a glass of water on your empty stomach.
  3. Don't start your running with tea or coffee.
  4. Please start your running with less target in the starting stage, don't take a big target.
