Working out before breakfast

If you exercise first thing in the morning before having your first proper meal, what do you take/eat to fuel your workout without making you sick?

I've realised with my schedule, I need to work out soon after waking at 6am. I don't want to wake up earlier than that, and I need to be ready for work at 8.45 so don't have time for a proper breakfast to digest. Would a pre-workout supplement or a smoothie etc help with giving me energy for a HIT circuit?

I always wake up hungry. There’s no way I could work out properly on an empty stomach. Luckily a piece of toast is enough to stave off the rumbling!

Anything other than a long run or swim (so 20+ miles, 3+ miles) I would do it on an empty stomach. Otherwise porridge.

I run first thing straight out of bed - I can’t even put a pint of water in as it’s uncomfortable to run immediately - so now I drink lots of water the night before so that my body is fully hydrated.

I always work out first thing on an empty stomach - I much prefer it! I’ve been doing this for years so my body is well used to it now. I think there are benefits to working out on an empty stomach so I would persevere if you possibly can. I usually eat breakfast afterwards but sometimes I don’t fancy it.

The only times I’ve ever felt nauseous was after fasting completely the previous day but even then it was ok once I got into it and I ate afterwards.
