40 mins on the cross trainer

Will 40 mins on the cross trainer do me any harm? I feel fitter. Not really lost any weight and I'm just over my bmi so not a huge lot to lose hut I'd like to lose a stone. I'm trying to cut down sugary snacks. I eat pretty well for my 3 main meals.

It's 6 times a week and I've been doing this for around 3 weeks

BMI is 27.6. I run three times a week and see a PT twice and the only way I can lose weight is by cutting down on the amount I eat. I’m more toned and feel great but exercise isn’t enough for me to shift weight. It is so frustrating.

There is a chance that your measurements have reduced, waist and hips definitely if you are on the cross trainer. Congratulations on being able to do 40 minutes. I can mange around seven minutes as a warm up before boredom sets in!

Thank you for your reply. I just try and zone out and watch something to stop the boredom. It is helping with stress, and I am toning up a little in places. I definitely feel better

I'm doing about 3.7km in 40 mins. Managed 4k in 45 mins tonight but just not sure if I'm doing any good!

Of course it will be doing you benefit. I would say that swapping out 2 of the sessions for a weight session will make more of an impact though

KatherineJaneway · 12/09/2021 23:29

It will benefit but it also depends on how fast you move and the resistance or level setting you choose.

carrottopper · 12/09/2021 23:38

Thanks @KatherineJaneway I have been increasing to level 3 within 5-10 mins and then moving to level 4. I tend to stay within 63-68rpm and try and lift it to 70s when I can. What would you recommend?

I always think that if I’m on an aerobic machine (treadmill crosstrainer etc) if I can focus on a video or podcast I’m not working hard enough!

If you really want to shed weight, then as others have said, it’s about food intake. But you could vary your routine to challenge your body (necessary to get fitter) by doing more intense intervals HIIT style.

@carrottopper

I must admit I go for the calories approach so am probably not the best person to ask. I choose to do 600 calories on a morning workout and 750 on a weekend one when I have more time.

I go to level 5 and power through the best I can.

@KatherineJaneway that's amazing!!! I can get 300 calories done in 40-45 mins. Struggle to get over 400 in an hour

@carrottopper

It took time to build up to it.
