TRX classes - should the instructor be watching us more?

I do TRX classes in a small gym.

There are a max of 5 people in the class. the instructor/gym owner always works out with us. He obviously needs to show us the exercises but once we start, I can't usually see him any more because I'm looking at the anchor and I don't think he can see me (or the others) very much because he's looking at the anchor or sometimes even facing the other way.

Am I right to think that he should show the exercise but then walk around and check that we are all doing it properly, rather than carry on having his own workout?

What do 'we' think?

  1. They are the classes Happytodayhappytomorrow; do them or don't do them. Your call.

Or

  1. Take a deep breath and ask him to watch the paying class attendees more rather than exercising himself.

Or

  1. Something else.

No idea what TRX is but I'd expect an instructor to instruct the class not just set you off

  1. Ask for more advice during the session? A strong raised voice and "please can you just check my...."

If that doesn't work, I'd be saying something

You could start by asking him which muscles you are supposed to be feeling the exercise in (unless he tells you). Then if you don't feel it where you are supposed to you ask him to come and check your positioning. Sometimes a subtle change in position makes all the difference, so you are not being unreasonable in wanting more input from him.

A lot of people think "monkey see, monkey do" works fine. Rather than possibly antagonising or embarrassing him by calling him out in class, or even telling him privately to stop having his own workout you could have a quiet word before the next session to say you're not sure about some of the exercises and could he explain more what's supposed to be happening and maybe keep a bit of an eye on you. If you want to do everyone else a favour, choose a spot at the back where he can't see you properly unless he stops his exercise and comes over, at which point he'll probably feel obliged to have a glance at everyone else, too.
