Do I have an ab crack or just a random line?

I workout six times a week doing body pump, body attack, combat and grit. I’m 36 and had a baby last year. I’m quite happy with my figure, size 8. Trying to work at my slight jelly belly - took a progress pic and wondered if the line is an ab crack or if this is normal?

@toocold54 I always thought I couldn’t do morning workouts but now I can’t do them any other time of day! I get up at 5.30/6 during the week and have a quick breakfast of bran flakes then do 45 mins of body attack / weights / grit (if I only have 30 mins) / body pump. I tend to alternate with cardio and weights. At the weekend I’ll try and do 45 mins class followed by 30 mins core. All on Les Mills. My baby wakes around 7 so I’ve always finished my workout by then and sometimes I’ll manage a quick shower before I get him up and give him breakfast. It’s a bit of a rush in the mornings but as long as baby’s bag is packed for nursery the night before I’m fine and ready to leave house by 8.15 for nursery. I work from home so don’t need to be “office ready” - I fear my morning workouts might be out the window whenever I have to return!

Its not something that you just get or have as a female and blardy well done

I "just got" mine, although I didn't know what it was called til today!

Pepsi9090 · 21/07/2021 21:42

You look amazing OP! It looks like an ab crack to me

awkwardd · 21/07/2021 21:50

I know how stupid this question is but how do you know you're doing the workout exercises properly?

I have horrible balance and coordination and would love to tone my body up, I don't have the confidence for a gym or PT but whenever I've done home workouts I just don't feel like Im doing them properly.

@Sjenson21 you look fantastic!

Thank you!
I don’t work from home so have to make myself look half decent but I think getting more organised the night before would definitely be helpful!
I’ve noticed done les mills before but heard great things so I’ll definitely give it a go Grin

Just googled ab crack and it doesn't say it's a bad thing. I'm still not 100% sure what it is though.

trunumber · 21/07/2021 22:01

You look amazing and on 5.30am workouts you deserve that amazing bod! Well done you. I'm a snooze button girl myself but I'm really impressed

SmileyClare · 21/07/2021 22:02

It's great that you're dedicated to your fitness.

I think the social media trend to make an "ab crack" a fitness goal is damaging. Although an apparent gap in abdominal muscles will only be revealed with a low body fat percentage, it's actually down to your genetics. Some women will not reveal an ab crack even if they work those muscles for hours daily.

Don't obsess is my advice. Smile Just enjoy how you look and feel without scouring the internet and comparing yourself to others.

Sjenson21 · 21/07/2021 22:08

My belly is still a bit flabby but I’m working on it! And definitely not obsessed, I enjoy calories wayyyyy too much! If I halved my treats I’d look like a goddess 🙈🤷‍♀️😂

Ab crack is like thigh gap, largely genetic & shape dependent. I have one despite having belly fat.

Sjenson21 · 21/07/2021 22:11

@awkwardd get Les Mills on demand, they have tutorials to show you the reps and moves. I have injured myself mildly a couple of times so for me it’s a “lesson learned” sometimes but 100000% do the warm ups properly no matter what. I used to skip them as thought they were pointless but omg the less likely you are to do damage is night and day. I like home workouts as don’t feel intimidated if I don’t know the routine and can stop for breathers etc

This is why I have belly fat! I only work 3 short days & my dc are in school but I do not get up at 5.30 to work out everyday. Props to you OP.

gollyh · 21/07/2021 22:14

Also didn't know it had a name

Mrsbclinton · 21/07/2021 22:22

Fair play to you op, you put in the work & have an amazing figure.

You sound so motivated and organised & with a small baby.

SmileyClare · 21/07/2021 22:28

@gollyh

Also didn't know it had a name
It 's known as the linea alba in medical terms.

The "ab crack" is the latest body craze; fuelled by social media and the toxic trend for posting body pics online and documenting fitness goals with progress photos shared publicly.

I love exercise and keeping fit but refuse to buy into these fads. See also "thigh gap" or "bikini bridge" (the gap between bikini bottoms and hip bones).

I've got an ab crack. Sadly it's buried amongst my flab at the moment.

Tonurse · 22/07/2021 22:56

I had this line when I was chubby (and when I'm slimmer), so I'm not sure.

I do think it must be muscle though

Rupertpenrysmistress · 22/07/2021 23:05

You look lovely you know it.

HalzTangz · 22/07/2021 23:28

It looks like the start of a six pack (if that's what an ab crack is)

Hoorayhenryyah · 24/07/2021 17:54

You have to be extremely lean to have visible definition at your abs, so I would say no it isn’t an ‘ab crack’ (whatever that is) 🙄

Dontbeme · 24/07/2021 18:10

@Balaur

There's a poster who regularly posts pictures of themselves in a bikini, I assumed it was you, my mistake.

I know nowt of ab cracks, now arse cracks, that's a different matter....

Ha, this reminds me of a joke my nephew loves.

Why do ducks have feathers on their bums? To cover their arse quack!

coogee · 24/07/2021 18:32

I Googled it and, apparently, Emily Ratajkowsk has one and she has virtually no visible muscle tone on her abdomen at all.

I think it is more down to luck.

Reallyreallyborednow · 24/07/2021 18:50

There’s a really good James Smith video on this ab crack/6 pack craze. For the vast majority of women to have defined stomach muscles it means their body fat has to be very low. Stopping periods kind of low. So even for super fit women having a 6 pack and maintaining a healthy body fat % is unachievable. Obviously a rare few will be genetically blessed in the way their fat is distributed, but for most, visible abs is not a healthy goal and women should not be trying to achieve it.

He also points out that most of the IG’ers will likely have shredded to reduce their body fat, taken all their pictures, then returned to “normal” as that kind of body fat % is only sustainable short term.

coogee · 24/07/2021 22:55

I still think it is down to luck. Like the previous thigh gap craze. This stomach is lean, but no "ab crack". Normal periods too.
