Ankle hurts if I walk or run, even short distances

I get a pain which feels like my bone is breaking just at the side of my right ankle bone if I walk over a certain distance. This doesn’t have to be long sometimes as short as 3-4K. I’ve totally given up on running as it’s too painful.

Could it be my footwear? I tend to walk on the outside of that foot a lot and I have wide feet. I’m over weight too. If so any suggestions for trainers to help?

As I say I’m overweight and really want to shift some lbs. Thanks in advance

Please go see your GP.

I have metal work holding my lower leg together spectacular break and despite being 8 stone overweight when I started running last year haven't experienced anything like the pain you've described. Commonly I'd be a bit sore, sometimes swollen but never in agony.

GP can refer you on to physio and/or x-ray to rule real injury to your lower leg and provide qualified advice on how you can exercise without being in so much pain. Running isn't for everyone but you should at least be able to walk without being in agony.

tbh I would start with (private) physio.
they might be able to get to the bottom of the issue, if it's muscular or related to the bone structure.
good luck

Might be easier and quicker to do the physio option. Can’t see a GP for jelly beans at the moment lol. I have thought about it myself but I (foolishly) thought it might get better.

Thanks for the advice so far
