Getting rid of the menopause pot belly

Right, today a young lad on the tube got up and offered me a seat because he thought I was pregnant. I am nearly 50:(

I am 5"7, a size 10-12, and reasonably slim all over, but have a very prominent belly because of menopause and genetics. My diet is pretty good- low carb, no sugar, no alcohol-but the only exercise I do is walk about 10 k steps a day. I like walking but loathe all other forms of exercise and always get out of it. ( like swimming but not doing it right now bcos of Covid). Was thinking I could maybe lift weights in front of the telly. Any suggestions from other women my age?

I am past your age .
Don't tell me what you don't eat but what you eat. I am full on board on the no-alcohol, no sugar but low carb is open for debate.
A Stanford university looked at a healthy low fat vs a healthy low carb diet
jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2673150 click on download pdf
and there was no difference , some people would do better on none, some on the others, the key was the "healthy" component , both diet groups were instructed to (1) maximize vegetable intake; (2) minimize intake of added sugars, refined flours, and trans fats; and (3) focus on whole foods that were minimally processed, nutrient dense, and prepared at home whenever possible and eat high quality food

So if evidently the low carb has done you no good, try testing the healthy low fat diet.
Try eating a very high quality, high vegetable diet and then add some whole grain or root vegetables.

The only thing I've found to work is weight training, tightens me up completely.
You have to be consistent but it does provide the results

Thanks for the replies. @Cormoran I act do have a v high quality vegetable diet bcos I am veggie ( tho i do eat eggs and v occ fish if I cant get veggie food outside). I dont eat processed food or ready meals, except maybe a packet of crisps once a month or so. I do think that in menopause, any excess weight goes straight to my belly, and I prob need to lose more body fat to counter that.

@Daisy03 Looking into weight training. Just ordered some weights over the weekend. Any reccos for beginner tube videos?

I'm 44 and recently started weight training. Mostly body weight so far as I wanted too see how I got on with it first. Definitely making a difference. Have invested in some small dumbells now. Not free but I am loving the Jessica Ennis app (Jennis) for training. She's also recently launched her cycle mapping extension which maps different types of training to your menstrual cycle for maximum effect. I love it. Lots of good videos for beginners and her approach is mostly a little and often one, which suits me.

Thanks @Fizzgigg, I will check that out. Little and often works best for me. Maybe body weight is a good idea.
