Cycling hip injury

Has anyone else experienced this??

I ride about 120 miles a week. I love it!!

I’ve felt like I’ve had a hernia in my right side lower abdomen. I’ve had my apendix years ago, so can’t be that..but it’s in the same area!
I’ve no bulge though.

Also that hip feels twisted and niggly. Sometimes to the point of keeping me awake!! When I stretch I feel the muscles tight and can feel the exact location of the muscle pain inside my hip.

But the lower right side pain is worrying me!! Could it be a hernia without a bulge?? Or could it be scar tissue from my appendix op (this was 25 years ago though!!)
Or could it be connected to the hip??

Once I know what is causing it, I can help somehow.

It is more likely Hip flexor tendinopathy. Do you feel like a pinching? My sister developed it while training for a race. It was caused by a shortening of the hip flexors.
She had many sessions with both a physio and osteo to fix that.

Flossie44 my first thought was hip flexor strain too. Do you stretch after riding? I don't nearly enough but last summer when I was doing 150+ miles a week I did and it made a huge difference. I second Cormoran's recommendation for physio.

Ah thanks so much for your replies. I’ve googled hip flexor and it really does sound like it. So I’m relieved. Knowing means I can tackle it.

blobby10 - I really don’t stretch afterwards nearly as much as I should be! I make a real point of stretching beforehand, but then once back I get caught up in the next task.
I will make a point now of doing so though!!

Thank you so much.

Do you think it could be adhesions from your op? More stretching I'd say. Stretchy stretchy.

When you say you stretch beforehand, do you mean dynamic stretching? Presume you know that you shouldn't stretch cold muscles. I know what you mean about forgetting to stretch afterwards - I often forget after a bike ride.
