Shin Splints?

I recently decided to lose weight and get fitter so decided to dig out my old 30 Day Shred DVD. In hindsight this probably wasn't the best of ideas. I'm 173lbs and 5ft 4 and haven't exercised in a long time. 4 days into doing the workout I noticed a aching pain in my left leg, not on the top of the shin on the middle of the inside leg. I stopped doing the shred and left it over the weekend to rest. Does this sound like shin splints? I notice that even just walking aggravates it and it'll be sore to touch or just painful when walking. Can I keep walking on this and expect it to heal or do I literally need to stop doing anything on my leg?

Hi @CrankyCoffee, well done on starting a new exercise routine, it just sounds like it might have been a bit too much a bit too soon. Did you do the workouts with trainers on? We’re the laces keeping your arch supported nicely? Perhaps try just going back to your usual walking for a few days, let it settle down. If it feel ok after a week have another go. Is there a lower impact version you could try of what she does? Could you do it 2-3 times per week with rest days in between? That might work for a while then increase from there.

Sounds like shin splints. Rest it as much as possible for a week or so to start with

Hi @CrankyCoffee, shin splits can happen if your trainers are not giving you the right support. If you have higher arches you could try getting an orthotic insole to help support your feet.
I recently tried some running shoes with higher cushioning specifically for this problem and so far it’s working.
