Any opinions on Apple Fitness Plus?

I’m thinking of getting Apple Fitness Plus, but interested in the opinion of anyone who has actually used it.

Although I have an Apple Watch, which I really like for the fitness aspects, I’d need to upgrade it as it is too old for Fitness Plus. I would probably get a new iPad too. I’m fortunate that cost is not too much of an issue, but it would be wastefully expensive if I didn’t get on with it.

I envisage using it for yoga and strength training. I like the idea of being able to pick workout duration. I’ll often do a long walk or crosstrainer session and just want to do something else to round off, or as a change.

We have really bouncy old floorboards and no garden, so anything that involves jumping around is out of the question. If it is heavily aerobic-class focused then that wouldn’t work.

I have an elliptical/ cross trainer but Fitness plus only seems to support exercise bikes and treadmills. Not sure if that would be something I could work around?

(I also have an iFit subscription for my cross trainer, but find the instructors too perky and annoying so usually just use it to automate the resistance on the trainer.)

Anyone with any experience if it, good or bad?

I have been really disappointed with Apple Fitness. I bought a new watch to be able to use it too! Do they still have a free on the trail? I would try it for 1 month and see if you like the style. I am back with Peloton because there are more instructors, more relatable and positive content and a wider range of classes. I don’t have a Peloton bike or Tread just the subscription, they offer one month free trial to view on phone, iPad etc.

There was an Apple Fitness thread on here somewhere.

Thanks @Tambourinetunes

There is a three month free trial if you buy a watch, but I only want to update my watch if I am going to use Apple Fitness.

I didn’t know peloton could be used without the equipment. I might give that a try.

I did search for a thread and couldn’t see one. I’ll try again 😊

If you try Peloton and have any difficulty sleeping I would recommend the sleep meditation with Ross, I am asleep so quickly it’s amazing! They also have them for relaxation and calm and they have been useful in lockdown, I’d pay the subscription just for them. There are so many classes to explore and you can search by duration of class, level and instructor. You can also bookmark classes to return to them easily.

I had a look and the Apple Fitness thread is here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/4128159-apple-fitness-plus I don’t think I have been able to explore it fully due to gyms I had been looking forward to the rowing classes and only got to try 2 of them before gyms closed.

I’ve got it and love it.
I used to run every morning but I do this instead.
I don’t have room for a bike or the like so I do HIIT, strength and dance.

On things like HIIT, strength and core (and I think yoga) they have three people; the main trainer one person on the left who does it a bit easier (and no jumping) and the person on the right does a more advanced version.

That said I have solid concrete floors, I don’t know if floor boards could cope!

I like it for beginners but I’m finding having used it a while that it gets a bit samey. It’s great when you can’t get to classes and a three month free trial
Was what sold it to me when it launched but the yoga is a bit shit because you are constantly stopping to see what they’re doing, there’s not great description of the moves. I love yoga but I don’t know the names of things and gave up quickly.

The dancing is great fun even if you do feel a bit silly prancing about in your front room.

I found though that the 20 mins exercises , even 30mins were just a bit too short for me.

I also don’t like that you can’t search for upper body or lower body exercises it’s pot luck really what you choose.

I’m so tempted by peloton or even Les
Mills

I like it! I agree it’s not hard but I put together my own combinations. Today I did core/ strength/ yoga... feels good. I like the super enthusiastic instructors! I like it being available when it suits me. I think it’s expensive.

I’ve been desperately unfit for a while (after being properly into CrossFit for a couple of years) and gave piled the 3 stone that I lost back on so I’m definitely obese again. I’ve started doing Apple Fitness+ strength workouts with dumbbells and have been enjoying them.

My DS had an Apple Watch for Xmas, so we got the free trial. I've also got a free period of the Peloton app from my health insurer (I don't have Peloton equipment, although we do have a spin bike and tread at home). Personally, I find Peloton better - a wider range of classes and instructors, easy to filter, you can get a feel for effort level and know what part of the body you'll be working on. I think Apple Fitness will eventually get there and be a decent competitor, but at the moment, I think Peloton is winning.
