I have walked from my home into town which was 3.5 miles.

Is this over Christmas or just in general? We live quite near the woods and have done many 10 mile walks with the dog but our normal route is between 3-6 miles. Would be much more difficult if we lived in a city though and less scenic.

penpox · 03/01/2021 16:59

8 miles (live in the city so unfortunately no countryside available)

CoronaIsWatching · 03/01/2021 17:00

I was feeling energetic one day and walked from Hammersmith to Canary Wharf, no idea how far that is in miles but I know it took over 3 hours

BookShop · 03/01/2021 17:00

About 15 miles. Lucky enough to live rurally with beautiful walks on our doorstep.

Spanielmadness · 03/01/2021 17:02

12 miles today along the canal. 10 yesterday.

I walked over 30 miles across 2 days a couple of years ago......,,

ProfYaffle · 03/01/2021 17:04

Most weekends we go out for a walk of about 2.5 - 3hrs. Not sure how many miles though.

blue25 · 03/01/2021 17:06

12 miles

ParkheadParadise · 03/01/2021 17:08

I hate walking.
When I stopped smoking I started walking with a friend. We would walk until we found a cafe to have cake n tea. All we did was a walkabout around the town very occasionally we managed 6miles and 2 cafe stops.

Wannabewriter · 03/01/2021 17:08

7.5 I think

PamsterWheel · 03/01/2021 19:22

About 8 miles which took about 2 hours, the last 15 mins were a struggle - feet hurting (was wearing good trainers), calf's aching, feeling very tired. Would love to walk further - how do all you long walkers do it?

Rgy3250999 · 03/01/2021 20:25

@PamsterWheel I think it’s just practise. I’m in a sedentary office job so without walking, I literally wouldn’t move. Once you get to 5/6 miles, it’s just a case of adding a bit extra on. My feet still ache a bit on a long walk but that’s because a ten-miler only happens once a month. I’ve recently completed C25K and even though I’m only up to 3.5/4 mile with my running, walking now feels so easy.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/01/2021 20:28

Normally 5 or 6 miles but a few years ago I walked into town and back again which is 20 miles.

The furthest I've ever walked in 24 hours was 26.2 miles - The Moonwalk - about 10 years ago.

If we go on holiday then we sometimes walk 10 -14 miles each day but in very hilly areas so it feels harder

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 03/01/2021 20:35

Daily ddog walk is between 3 - 5 miles 5 days a week. Has been known to do 10.000 just staying in doing housework..

lljkk · 03/01/2021 20:37

10-12 miles in one day.

TitInATrance · 03/01/2021 20:39

12 miles recently, 15 before the first lockdown in a fit of advance claustrophobia. I live in a city but can walk out of it, and find the motion of walking very soothing.

AlrightTreacle · 03/01/2021 22:45

16.18km according to the Samsung health app on my phone. My usual walking route is about 5km though.

I love a solitary walk with an audio book and a dog (sadly I have to borrow the dog).

CherryRoulade · 03/01/2021 22:51

Do about five miles each day. Husband runs ten then walks five later with me, usually.
Weekends and holidays more - happily potter along for twelve miles.

Haggertyjane · 04/01/2021 08:55

My bastard ex husband started his usual screaming rant at me for buying a packet of biscuits at a shopping trip 9 miles from home. I told him to stop the car and let me out as he was also driving erratically. He did and left me to walk home. It took me 4 hours.

I do walk around the racecourse occasionally which is around 2 miles but i hate all forms of exercise 😂

MrsDThomas · 04/01/2021 12:14

15 miles. Easy where I live and thats up 2 mountains from my doorstep.

MrsDThomas · 04/01/2021 12:15

My quick walk is 3 miles round the block. If on a Saturday im bored ill go for 6-7 alone with my music.

Pinkstars2501 · 06/01/2021 19:31

13.5 miles. We walked from our house, to a local massive hill (just short of technically a mountain), up it and then back. Took 3 hours.

It's a massive hill though and one of the hours was just going and up and down that.

We're lucky to live semi rurally and can either go one way into town, or the other way to countryside.

emmathedilemma · 07/01/2021 16:29

Goodness knows. I try to do 3 miles round the block at lunchtime or after work most days. Avoiding public transport at the moment so it's about 6 miles round trip into the city centre and back on the rare occasion i need anything from there. During the lockdown in spring / summer I walked miles when there was nothing else to do but it's a bit less appealing in the cold and dark this time!

ketosavedmylife · 07/01/2021 16:53

@Lockdowner35

I have walked from my home into town which was 3.5 miles.
I'm trying to cut down my car use so a couple of years ago I deliberately got a transfer to a workplace that I can walk to so now walk 6 miles round trip to and from work every day (except when it's peeing down and I take the car).

One summer me and DH walked five miles along canal path to Falkirk Wheel, transferred to the other canal path and walked to see the Kelpies then walked home. Took nearly 8 hours (stopped at pub for lunch). Saw a kestrel, a couple of storks and some deer, loads of ducks etc. Still remember the blisters Shock.

Walk along canal path to supermarket regularly, too (1 hour round trip) but not for heavy stuff Grin.
