Any explanation of Electric Bikes?

I live in a very hilly place and seem to spend a lot of time pushing.
The roads are in a poor state, narrow with no lights or pavements and I seem to choose the car for convenience.
If you have an electric bike would you be happy to share your experiences?
£2k is an awful lot to waste on a fad but I do yearn for one.

Hi, my DP has one.

He bought it for similar reasons to you. Where we live is surrounded by hills, and he enjoyed cycling but not the going uphill part! So he bought the ebike and found it encouraged him to do a bit more, because he wasn’t thinking about the hills and inwardly groaning.

He hasn’t used it as much lately but he’s busy at work and also the weather isn’t as nice. I’ll encourage him again in the spring, who knows I might get one myself!

@ahorse, thanks. Any particular makes or motors to look out for?

Ribble are good, Trek, Giant, Specialized.

Apparently the govt are soon to announce a massive price cut to electric bikes as they want to encourage people to buy them

That's great news, I'll hang on a bit. Thank you.

Its strange when n electric bike comes past you on a hill, Ive passed a few on the flat as they are set to a particular speed e.g. 12mph

so the person riding pedals along and if they slow down the motor kicks in and keeps them at 12mph

so I may pass someone along the flat at 14pmh say and then come to a hill and I'll slow down to 10mph whilst peddling up hill, they will then come past me doing 12mph as the engine has kicked in to keep them at that speed - but they are still peddling

If your going to set it just under what you normally average then you'll not use much battery and gain the advantage on the hills, but still get exercise

are you want the bike for lesiure rides or shopping? what type of bike road bike hybrid?
