Pilates or yoga help for an inflexible novice

Hi

I am very very inflexible.

Couple
Of years ago I pulled a shoulder muscle and since then I even struggle to wipe my own backside - I don’t have the rotation.

I’m 45 and very very stiff elsewhere. I’ve done lots of cardio in the past (marathon level) and dabbled in body building (no drugs) for a few years

But I’ve never ever been flexible. And, as stated above, it’s getting worse. I sometimes walk like a 75 year old. I’m sure this is because I use to neglect the warm up and cool down stretches

I had joined a gym with Pilates classes but they are now shut - and there want only a week before joining and then shut down

I just don’t know how to get more flexible but think one of the above should do it - just don’t know where to start

In normal times I would say find a physio that teaches Pilates and get a private assessment if you can. I think lots of people can teach Pilates but could do more harm than good if they don't know enough about bodies and / or don't assess you first.

Also have you seen a physio about your shoulder? I have seen NHS ones - some bad, some great - and a private injury specialist physio who is amazing.

I don't know much about yoga but my friend has trained as a teacher and recommended yoga with Adrienne on YouTube when I said my back was hurting and stiff.
