Running in winter, what to wear?

I started running earlier this year, since April, so was always comfortable in leggings and a vest top, what do you wear in winter? Is just a long sleeve base layer enough usually?

Layers!! A vest top, with sometimes one or more long sleeved tops over. Long sleeves are vital so you can tie them round your waist as you shed your layers.

Fingerless mitts

I also have a waterproof running jacket but honestly I have hardly ever used it. If it’s a short run day I don’t mind getting wet for 30-40 mins. If it a a long run day and the weather is REALLY BAD I might just do a short run instead.

Welcome to the joy that is running in winter! I always enjoy my running much more in the cold and wet rather than hot & stuffy summer

Leggings, long sleeve stretchy top, loose t shirt over. If I am not a bit too cold before I start I know I will be far too hot before I finish, if that makes sense. Sometimes running in very cold weather makes me choke a bit so am quite looking forward to seeing if running with a mask on helps with that!

Ah yes good shout on the mitts!!

Shorts, vest, good sports bra, light long-sleeved base layer for taking off and tying round the waist if it gets too hot. Light gloves for the coldest days. Definitely not fingerless though - my fingers feel the cold more than anywhere else! - just thin running gloves.

A windproof jacket if it is freezing and I'm going to be out for 3 hours plus.

Running in the winter is brilliant Smile

I would overheat in leggings in summer, sounds horrible (for me).
Leggings only for winter for me.
Agree on the principle of layers, things I can stuff in pockets or into waistband as I warm up. Neckbuff, headband, gloves, sleeves, possibly a peak cap if rain.

A sweat band type of thing with wider bits arounf the ears - no idea what to call it. I get awful ear ache when it's cold but this item wards it off without making me too hot.

I also have a skull cap with integrated bluetooth speakers, which is very useful.

When it’s really cold, wool socks over thin trainer socks or I start stumbling about with frozen toes.
