My husband has a long term health condition. Until 18 months ago he was active, climbing, kayakiing, working. Now he struggle to walk. More then 30 mins will mean he has to have a sleep. On a bad day he cant,t walk 10 mins. Last time he tried swimming he struggled to maitain his head above water. (despite being a white water kayaker.) What excercise/ ways of being active can he do. He is getting fat. (To be blunt.)

This was me, I went from working out 6 days a week to being unable to get off the sofa. As I kept eating as I did before I, predictably, put on weight.
I can still no longer exercise but I lost the weight (3 stone) and I’m thinner than ever by watching what I eat. Work out his tdee -the calories total to maintain his current weight-then reduce this amount by 20% for his daily calorie target to lose weight. He can go back up to tdee weight once he’s back at his target weight.

Weigh and log everything he eats or drinks in My Fitness Pal or similar. It’s amazing where calories hide. A sandwich can container more calories than a well portioned roast dinner!

It must be very frustrating for him and I imagine some extra calories are consumed through boredom rather than hunger. It’s tough when you have lost the active life you had, becoming heavy and feeling unhealthy adds to the misery tbh. Is an exercise bike an option to add some light activity & beat the boredom? Has he tried yoga? Not so much of a workout that it’s exhausting but can give you really toned muscles & leaves you feeling good.there are loads of tutors on YouTube.

This must feel horrible for him. Maybe Some gentle pilates? Or a few sessions with a personal trainer would be best?

He has done some pilates but had to stop due to back issues. (a seperate problem meaning he struggled with the postiions,).
