After sea swimming regularly since May I’m hoping to carry on. Is anyone else hoping to carry on open water or sea swimming through the winter? If you fancy supporting each other and sharing hints n tips come join me. I’ve just bought some socks and neoprene hat, I’m hoping to to stay in my cossie as long as possible but I do have a wet suit if I cave. Smile

Well done @LazyDoll its pretty Baltic at the moment. I’ve not been for 2 weeks due to a combination of illness and just really poor rough sea state BUT it looks good tomorrow!! So hoping I can nip down at some point even it’s a 6min dip float breaststroke head out going arrhhh 😂I don’t want to lose my momentum of going. I’m still nursing a sore throat when tired so need to be careful. I’ll probably wear my jacket w booties & glove’s & neoprene hat.

Winter789Mermaid look after yourself and if you make it I hope it’s calm and lovely for you.

Beautiful icy cold swim dip this morning scraped car at -5c but was dry cold and frost on the beach! Fab loved it that full body tingle after and then 3-layers & bobble hat while I work 😂hoping no one wants a video call this morning..

WinterMermaid234 · 24/01/2023 13:14

The lovely calm conditions have meant I’ve had 4 dips in the last week, absolutely freezing though so I’ve limited myself to under ten minutes or it just takes me the rest of the day to warm up!

BogRollBOGOF · 24/01/2023 13:29

I'm in wimp mode and may not fit in a January swim at this rate. The water's 1.5⁰C and it's just not worth the travel, and wetsuit wrangling for the length of time that I'd stay in. The water's spent more time being cold this year than last year. 5⁰C, I can handle. I'm marathon training too, so that's restricting avaliable time.

Well Done sounds super lovely!!!

I got a couple more dips in this week but boy it’s sooo cold, especially when the sun went in.

WinterMermaid234 · 17/02/2023 14:34

How’s everyone doing? I’ve carried on dipping but it’s definitely felt colder this Jan-Feb than last year. I’ve achieved my initial goal on the bluetits winter swimming challenge- I do like a sew on challenge badge to go on my towel 😃

LazyDoll · 22/03/2023 19:53

Well done wintermermaid I’ve not been for a few weeks as had a bad cold then hurt my back but back in this Friday. I can’t wait! Think the temperatures gone up to about 9°. Was 7.6° on my last swim. Will let you know how it goes!

WinterMermaid234 · 23/03/2023 11:36

Hope you enjoy your swim @LazyDoll ive not been in for 3wks as the last couple of dips I just about managed 7mins as it was so flipping cold. Coupled with some hormonal issues I was struggling to warm up for hours afterwards so waiting now to get a less windy and sunnier day to get back in!

CoughForWeeks · 03/04/2023 19:48

Anyone been in the sea yet?!

WinterMermaid234 · 03/04/2023 19:56

Went in today it’s was artic so so cold at the moment not that enjoyable even with the sunshine. Roll on warmer weather 🥶

BogRollBOGOF · 03/04/2023 20:01

I went in last week. The lake was 10⁰C, so hopefully I can start getting my face in and shucking some neoprene soon. Having a floaty bum and keeping my face up is not good for an efficient swimming stroke 😂 I did last about half an hour though and it wasn't that deep chill.

Hopefully it should be nice later in the month as post-marathon rehab 😎

LazyDoll · 05/04/2023 22:40

Coughforweeks not done NYE but due to this weekend! Will let you know how it goes!!

CoughForWeeks · 08/04/2023 01:19

Went in for 10 minutes in N Wales and it was pretty refreshing. Great to get back in though!

TriSkiRun99 · 08/04/2023 16:29

I’ve had two days on the row in the sea and still unbelievable icy and the wind today was arctic but good to feel like spring is returning.

3 morning swims in a creek off the Kingsbridge Estuary. Sooo lovely to be in salt water. A little choppy but warming up a bit now!

TriSkiRun99 · 14/04/2023 06:55

Sounds lovely lazydoll, we’ve had that fierce storm for a few days turned the sea brown & more pollution alerts sadly so I’ve not got back in and now away over the weekend. I hope to get back in next week once kids in school again.

I'm hoping to make a return next week... the lake's up to 11⁰C and it'll be good post-marathon exercise!

I've not had much chance to get down since new year and it'll be good to get going again.

CoughForWeeks · 16/05/2023 18:34

Had a lovely 30 minute swim in N Wales, no wetsuit!

How did the marathon go!? And did you get that swim?!

Absolutely beautiful 🤩

TriSkiRun99 · 16/05/2023 20:46

Wow 30mins it looks lush but it still feels so cold to me. I went early this morning in costume but still got boots & gloves on but it was cold with the northly wind, only lasted ten minutes then took hours to warm up.

The marathon went really well, ran it (well Jeffed) in 5:15.
It would take me forever to do an iron man as I'm not the fastest swimmer either.

I've made it swimming once since. I've just struggled to be avaliable on half-pleasant days to go there. I even booked one swim with about 2 hours notice and couldn't make it because 30mins later I ended up picking up a vomiting child from school 🤦‍♀️

The water's warming up nicely now though. It's taken long enough!
