After sea swimming regularly since May I’m hoping to carry on. Is anyone else hoping to carry on open water or sea swimming through the winter? If you fancy supporting each other and sharing hints n tips come join me. I’ve just bought some socks and neoprene hat, I’m hoping to to stay in my cossie as long as possible but I do have a wet suit if I cave. Smile

Got lucky again today the windchill is dropping (forecast says -7c windchill coming Tom) but the sea was super calm so cycled down for a 10min dip even got a bit of head in front crawl going but boy does it give you head freeze Grin That’s 5 swims this week a record for me.

TriSeaSwim2021 · 07/02/2021 14:37

2021 I have no idea you are best asking around locally or seeing if there’s local face book swim group and ask on there. Booties, gloves and a bright hat I’d highly recommend ahead of any special wetsuit.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 07/02/2021 18:47

I'm jealous, Tri, the sea was far too rough today to be any way safe. With the weather forecast for the next week/10 days is pretty ferocious so I
won't get in again soon, I fear.

Sorry, I'm no help, 2021hastobebetter, other than echoing Tri's advice.

TriSeaSwim2021 · 07/02/2021 21:09

The forecast for next week looks a write off Sad maybe it will change fingers crossed.

TriSeaSwim2021 · 08/02/2021 11:39

Arrh I cycled past the swim spot today and conditions although chilly were flipping perfect wish I’d taken my kit now!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 10/02/2021 19:16

The weather would have been ok for a dip today, but the coast guard have asked that people don't swim this week so I won't. Let's hope next week will be better 🤞

TriSeaSwim2021 · 10/02/2021 19:19

Got a quick chilly dip with my equally mad mate after work today. It was bumpy and brown but a fun 10mins head clearer.

Hope you can get back in soon mother

TriSeaSwim2021 · 14/02/2021 20:54

I’m feeling hopeful there maybe a chance for a sunrise SeaSwim tomorrow the wind looks like it may drop but the swell may still be abit high. I’ll nip down to check though as the last 3days we have been buffeted by 40mph gusts & mega high tides/waves.

TriSeaSwim2021 · 15/02/2021 18:16

Yah got out this afternoon, I did try at sunrise but it was the first time I red carded it as far too rough at High tide, so went back after low tide and it was ok. Got a nice 10min splash around & iced my HM legs Grin

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 15/02/2021 22:27

I'm so jealous! I had hoped to go today but I couldn't get away from my desk til it was too late. Hoping I'll be able to mitch off for an hour tomorrow 🤞

TriSeaSwim2021 · 16/02/2021 11:28

I could kick my myself @MotherForkinShirtBalls as I had forgotten when the seafront is rough with a southerly there’s another spot round the estuary that was millpond smooth at high tide 🙈I cycled past it this morning and was like arrhhh I should swim there! So may try tomorrow morning just before High tide - hope you get out soon it’s frustrating when the weather/tides conspire against you.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 16/02/2021 17:32

Oh no, that's so annoying to remember something after the fact. There is a similar bay near me that tends to be much calmer but it's absolute clogged with slimy seaweed and I avoid it like the plague.

I bunked off and had my 10 minutes of a glorious dip. The weather is looking good for the next few days so I hope I can juggle work things around a bit a couple of more times this week.

Mooserp · 17/02/2021 12:45

I finally got back in the river today after a few weeks' break due to the weather and flooding. Water was a lot 'warmer' at just under 7 degrees. Looking forward to warmer times and longer in the water!

SSwimCycle21 · 18/02/2021 18:46

It’s funny how 7c starts to feel warm 🤣I had a bouncy face slapping dip this afternoon. Very cold wind though getting out. Forecast looks pants again next two days but hopefully Monday looks ok.

I’m Tri just named changed Smile

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 18/02/2021 19:00

Hello new Tri Smile. I had a similar bouncy dip today. The tide was on its way out so i didn't stay in long as with the swell the drag was fairly strong. And the kids managed to soak themselves to the knees before I'd even got in 🤦‍♀️ I'm hoping I'll be in again on Sunday.

SSwimCycle21 · 18/02/2021 19:55

My DD also got wet jumping around she really wanted to go in but it’s too cold for her. Instead she dances around in the shallows Smile but boy the wind chill was brrr. I’m still warming up 3hrs later! Hope you get your Sunday dip.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 21/02/2021 15:06

I managed to get I again today! It is still very bouncy with a strong drag so I wasn't in long. It really makes a difference to how I feel, fingers crossed the weather stays good for a while

SSwimCycle21 · 21/02/2021 18:58

I could have gone today but was feeling tired after a long cycle but I’m definitely going tomorrow as it’s flat calm and no wind forecast Smile not had that for a couple of weeks.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/02/2021 17:14

We've another big storm coming over the next couple of days so I had a quick dip today. I braved the cove I don't really like as I was close by for work anyway and I didn't want to risk my usual stretch being too choppy. It was like a mill pond so maybe I should stop being so fussy!

Are you a triathlete, SSwim? I like the idea of cycling but I'm so incredibly bad at it Blush

SSwimCycle21 · 22/02/2021 21:35

I double dipped today Grin got a sunrise swim and a late afternoon swim it was such a lovely day after a run of grey wet ones. Yea I do dable in Tris but I’m not very good 🤣 I’ve got two rolled over Tri enteries from last year in May & Sept to do that I’d forgotten about..

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/02/2021 21:45

A double?? You lucky thing! I can hear the wind howling outside so I'm glad I got in today, I'd say it'll be the weekend before it's safe to swim again Sad.

I can't get my head round triathlons at all. Fair play to you!

SSwimCycle21 · 23/02/2021 10:10

I didn’t think I ever do a triathlon but at 45 I did my first Go-Tri a pool swim 300m, 10km track cycle and 2.5k run. It was really good fun mostly middle aged folk with curvy bits taking part Grin lots of really slow breaststroke’s in the pool (which was frustrating as I taught myself FC to take part), my eldest DD came and had a go too and for the last 3years we’ve done the same event. She nearly beat my time aged13 last year...this year she will Grin

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 25/02/2021 13:30

Ha, yes, my 8yo is faster than me but doesn't yet have the stamina to ultimately beat me yet ...we are the very definition of the tortoise and the hare Grin

I had a morning swim today and it was lovely. I'm stuck to my desk for the day so it was great to get out, even if I'm still freezing from it!

SSwimCycle21 · 25/02/2021 19:17

Glad you got a swim in MotherForkinShirtBalls we have some lovely weather forecast here over the next few days. I had a grey swim early this morning but excitedly planning another sunrise swim tomorrow as blue sky but cold calm sunny day is forecast Smile

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 26/02/2021 18:20

Another bumpy bounce around today. I didn't really have time do I was late back for a meeting but it was worth it Grin
