C25K Graduates. Any interest in a thread for those not ready for the ‘big’ running thread but want support/chat?

I was on the fab c25k threads as a newbie and a graduate and wondered if there was any interest in a chat thread for graduates to chat about progress and whatnot?

I feel a bit like I’m in no man’s land on the exercise board. It can be disheartening to see people talking about running x numbers of 5ks a week when you’re blowing out of your arse on w2r3. On the flip side, whilst the main running thread is full of lovely people, I feel a bit of a fraud with my plodding 5kms Blush.

Graduated mid July. Age 59. Usually do 4K three times a week. 5k on good days. Takes 45 mins for 5k. Started raining today half way so managed 5.7 at fastest pace ever. No goals to run longer or faster. Hate the start but enjoy it once I've done the first ten mins

Count me in. I could plod round a parkrun 5k most weekends and then it was closed coz of covid. It was then I realised it was no longer a chore and I actually missed it. Shock

Now I'm doing #notparkrun so that I don't seize up but it's not as good. I miss the company. Sad

beguilingeyes · 24/09/2020 12:02

And the likelihood of Parkrun coming back in October seems to have been snatched away again. I miss it too.

MirandaWest · 24/09/2020 13:09

I’m missing park run too. Have been running every day for maybe a couple of weeks? Hit a new 2020 PB for 2k yesterday which was good and also ran 9k last Saturday which is the furthest I’ve run in years. Have been finding the Nike run club app and the guided runs really good

Finished c25k on Thursday, doing the 30 minutes but about 4.5k . Wanted some structure going forward so I tried Wk1 R1 this morning but running the minute runs as fast as I could. It was exhausting! Plus it turns out when I try to run fast I run like I’m being chased, like an extra in Jurassic park about to be picked off as the hero narrowly escapes. Anyway it interestingly hard and made my very slow 30min runs seem actually quite appealing in comparison . I’m thinking maybe I’ll alternate the wk 9 run with the fast intervals and see what happens. Also has the advantage that it’s only 30mins and on days when I start work earlier it’s easier to fit in.

Congrats on your graduation, @Cathpot! I use the early runs for fast intervals too Smile.

I ran 10k round an airfield with other people today! And it was very windy for about 4 of those km.

Was an organised event for people to do distances between 5k and marathon - I enjoyed it Smile.

Need to keep on with the running now of course...

JonHammIsMyJamm · 04/10/2020 18:56

Lots of folk ran past me this morning, on my dog walk, with their London numbers on, doing their virtual marathon. I felt a bit sad for them, tbh. Imagine all the training and the sacrifices made and the joy of finally getting a hens tooth ballot place and then it all gets flushed away by bloody COVID Sad. First World problem, obviously and lots of people have endured worse during the pandemic but it’s just another bit of life that this bloody thing has stolen.

10km in the wind is no mean feat, @MirandaWest! Brava 👏

There were some people with London marathon numbers running today - really not the same

Ruex · 04/10/2020 20:10

I was on the other c25k threads. I have graduated now a while back and was still going out for a 30 minute run every other day until I went back to work and it all went out the window. I really miss it so I need to try and find some time.

MirandaWest · 11/10/2020 20:41

I have joined in a Macmillan challenge to run ten 5ks in ten days. I’m starting tomorrow. Am pretty sure I can do it as I’ve been running every day for a few weeks but now people have sponsored me I’m feeling a bit of pressure to do it Grin

MirandaWest · 15/10/2020 16:59

Have done 4 days of my challenge - after tomorrow I’ll be half way through Smile

myomy · 18/10/2020 10:13

Just reading this thread now.
Running since the summer and most of the time I'm enjoying it. Would have ran four times a week but it's more like three times a week now. I use the machine which is supposedly easier but I just don't think I would like running outside.

I couldn't run the length of myself before I started and now I've built it up, I have just done a10km (just wanted to see if I could do it). I will mostly be sticking with 5-7 km depending on my motivation on the day.

How is op and everyone else getting on at the minute?
Miranda how you doing now, are your legs still working?

MirandaWest · 18/10/2020 11:02

@myomy - I did run number 7 today and legs still holding out. Did a 10k yesterday as wasn’t working and wanted to run by the river Smile.

Am guessing I could run a bit faster but will stick with my 32/33 or so minute 5ks for now

myomy · 18/10/2020 14:48

That's good going!
I think you are right to go slower at least till you finish the 10 days.
